"abstractNote": "Modern economies depend on innovation in services for their future growth. Service innovation increasingly depends on information technology and digitization of information processes. Designing new services is a complex matter, since collaboration with other companies and organizations is necessary. Service innovation is directly related to business models that support these services, i.e. services can only be successful in the long run with a viable business model that creates value for its customers and providers. This book presents a theoretically grounded yet practical approach to designing viable business models for electronic services, including mobile ones, i.e. the STOF model and – based on it – the STOF method. The STOF model provides a ‘holistic’ view on business models with four interrelated perspectives, i.e., Service, Technology, Organization and Finance. It elaborates on critical design issues that ultimately shape the business model and drive its viability.",

"abstractNote": "Introduction: France is facing a shortage of available physicians due to a greying population and the lack of a proportional increase in the formation of doctors. Emergency physicians are the medical system's first line of defence. Methods: The authors prepared a comprehensive questionnaire using established scales measuring various aspects of working conditions, satisfaction and health of salaried physicians and pharmacists. It was made available online, and the two major associations of emergency physicians promoted its use. 3196 physicians filled out the questionnaire. Among them were 538 emergency physicians. To avoid bias, 1924 physicians were randomly selected from the total database to match the demographic characteristics of France's physician population: 42.5% women, 57.5% men, 8.2% <35 years old, 33.8% 35-44 years old, 34.5% 45-54 years old and 23.6% ≥55 years old. The distribution of physicians in the 23 administrative regions and by speciality was also precisely taken into account. This representative sample was used to compare subgroups of physicians by speciality. Results: The outcomes indicate that the intent to leave the profession (ITL) was quite prevalent across French physicians and even more so among emergency physicians (17.4% and 21.4% respectively), and burnout was highly prevalent (42.4% and 51.5%, respectively). Among the representative sample and among emergency physicians, work-family conflict (OR=4.47 and OR=6.14, respectively) and quality of teamwork (OR=2.21 and OR=5.44, respectively) were associated with burnout in a multivariate analysis, and these risk factors were more prevalent among emergency physicians than other types. A serious lack of quality of teamwork appears to be associated with a higher risk of ITL (OR=3.92 among the physicians in the representative sample and OR=4.35 among emergency physicians), and burnout doubled the risk of ITL in multivariate analysis. Conclusions: In order to prevent the premature departure of French doctors, it is important to improve work-family balance, working processes through collaboration, multidisciplinary teamwork and to develop team training approaches and ward design to facilitate teamwork.",

"abstractNote": "The book is the result of a decade-long study of 150 strategic moves spanning more than 30 industries over 100 years (1880-2000). Blue Ocean Strategy (BOS) is the simultaneous pursuit of differentiation and low cost. The aim of BOS is not to out-perform the competition in the existing industry, but to create new market space or a blue ocean, thereby making the competition irrelevant. BOS offers a set of methodologies and tools to create new market space. While innovation has been seen as a random/experimental process where entrepreneurs and spin-offs are the primary drivers – as argued by Schumpeter and his followers – BOS offers systematic and reproducible methodologies and processes in pursuit of innovation by both new and existing firms. Using dozens of examples-from Southwest Airlines and the Cirque du Soleil to Curves and Starbucks-the authors present the tools and frameworks they've developed specifically for the task of analyzing blue oceans. These frameworks and tools are designed to be visual in order to not only effectively build the collective wisdom of the company but also to effectively execute through easy communication. BOS covers both strategy formulation and strategy execution.",

"note": "usability +\n\n\nBOS frameworks and tools include: strategy canvas, value curve, four actions framework, six paths, buyer experience cycle, buyer utility map, and blue ocean idea index. The three key conceptual building blocks of BOS are: value innovation, tipping point leadership, and fair process. Value innovation: the simultaneous pursuit of differentiation and low cost. Value innovation focuses on making the competition irrelevant by creating a leap of value for buyers and for the company, thereby opening up new and uncontested market space. Tipping point leadership: The conventional theory of organizational change focused on moving the mass, requiring steep resources and long time frames. Tipping point leadership, by contrast, takes a reverse course. To change the mass it focuses on transforming the extremes: the people, acts, and activities that exercise a disproportionate influence on performance. By transforming the extremes, tipping point leaders are able to change the core fast and at low cost to execute their new strategy. Fair Process: Fair process builds execution into strategy by creating people's buy-in up front. When fair process is exercised in the strategy making process, people have trust and this inspires them to cooperate voluntarily in executing the resulting strategic decisions. There are three mutually reinforcing elements that define fair process: engagement, explanation, and clarity of expectation. They are called the three ? principles of fair process. To reconstruct buyer value elements in crafting a new value curve, the authors suggest to use the Four Actions Framework. To break the trade-off between differentiation and low cost and to create a new value curve, there are four key questions to challenge an industry's strategic logic and business model: 1) Which of the factors that the industry takes for granted should be eliminated? 2) Which factors should be reduced well below the industry's standard? 3) Which factors should be raised well above the industry's standard? 4) Which factors should be created that the industry has never offered? The Eliminate-Reduce-Raise-Create Grid (ERRC) is complementary with the four actions framework. It pushes companies not only to ask all four questions in the four actions framework but also to act on all four to create a new value curve, essential for unlocking a new blue ocean. This grid gives companies four immediate benefits: (1) It pushes them to simultaneously pursue differentiation and low cost to break the value-cost trade off; (2) It immediately flags companies that are focused only on raising and creating and thereby lifting the cost structure and often overengineering products and services - a common plight in many companies; (3) It is easily understood by managers at any level, creating a high level of engagement in its application; (4)Because completing the grid is a challenging task, it drives companies to robustly scrutinize every factor the industry competes on, making them discover the range of implicit assumptions the make unconsciously in competing. A useful exercise for a corporate management team pursuing profitable growth is to plot the company's current and planned portfolios on the pioneer-migrator-settler (PMS) map.",

How to develop such products is hardly known. We propose an interdisciplinary approach, e 3 -value, to explore an innovative e-commerce idea with the aim of understanding such an idea thoroughly and evaluating it for potential profitability. Our methodology exploits a requirements engineering way of working, but employs concepts and terminology from business science, marketing and axiology. It shows how to model business requirements and improve business–IT alignment, in sophisticated multi-actor value constellations that are common in electronic commerce. In addition to the e 3 -value approach methodology, we also present the action research-based development of our methodology, by using one of the longitudinal projects we carried out in the field of online news article provisioning.",
