No one's entirely sure which one wrote the diary. The diary begins in 1862 in Louisiana after the fall of New Orleans. She discusses her slaves' willingness to help with their flight from Louisiana. According to the author of the diary, her town (Bayou LaFourche) had to flee in order to escape enclosing Union Armies. The diary discusses her journey through among other places, San Antonio, Laredo, Mexico, Cuba, Europe, and finally after the war's end back to Louisiana. It looks like an interesting story.
