Historians have long been frustrated by the paucity of written sources on the\nregion, even in the narrow window offered by classical accounts of Alexander’s campaigns,\nand the appearance of new evidence is cause for great excitement. The ADAB documents refer\nto numerous individuals unattested in other written sources, from minor village officials to a\nprobable satrap of Bactria in the reign of Artaxerxes III.
