Orientado para a mudança, adota a metodologia de investigação-ação, tendo como objetivo compreender a relevância da gestão do sistema de informação arquivística da instituição museu para o cumprimento da sua missão e objetivos específicos. Tratando-se de procurar formas de otimizar o sistema de informação, desenvolve-se o estudo do contexto de produção informacional com recurso à análise orgânico-funcional para conhecer a estrutura do sistema, os seus limites e as suas relações sistémicas. A partir deste método, organiza-se a globalidade da informação arquivística do Museu de Lagos numa perspetiva holística e integrada, com recurso às operações de classificação e descrição da informação. Esta intervenção permitirá ao Museu de Lagos o acesso e uso dos seus recursos de informação de forma contextualizada, integrada, continuada e de acordo com a sua missão e objetivos institucionais. Em primeiro lugar, procurou-se conhecer a articulação entre património e digital e a sua evolução ao longo do tempo. Foi também analisado o contexto europeu de programas e outras ações realizadas direcionadas para a digitalização do património, nomeadamente através de dados estatísticos. Pretendeu-se ainda perceber até que ponto se encontra a presença da imagem digital, quer a nível da preservação, quer a nível da divulgação. Por fim, as conclusões adquiridas com o estudo das questões acima mencionadas foram utilizadas para a análise de três estudos de caso. Desta forma, a metodologia aplicada carateriza-se pelo método qualitativo, consistindo na pesquisa bibliográfica e em três estudos de caso. No que toca aos estudos de caso, a sua seleção pretendeu abranger Portugal e outros dois países da Europa, bem como diversos tipos de património no plano digital. Assim, foram escolhidos: Biblioteca DigiTile – Azulejaria e Cerâmica Online, RomArchive, the Digital Archive of the Roma e Prehistoric Picture Project, Pitoti: Digital Rock-Art. Através destes, podemos compreender a importância da criação de arquivos, bibliotecas e museus digitais, uma vez que, por um lado, representam uma forma de preservação contra fatores a que o património cultural no seu estado físico está sujeito e, por outro lado, é fundamental no desenvolvimento da divulgação, uma vez que permite a visualização de conteúdos de forma interativa, inovadora e personalizada, bem como permite ainda o surgimento de novas profissões associadas a esta área.
