            "abstractNote": "The exponential growth of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare has sparked both enthusiasm and apprehension within the nursing discipline. While AI promises  to enhance clinical efficiency, accuracy, and decision-making, it simultaneously  challenges nursing's humanistic foundations, its ethical commitments, relational  presence, and caring philosophy. This paper critically examines how classical  nursing theories, including those of Nightingale, Peplau, Orem, Roy, and Watson,  can be reinterpreted in light of AI's expanding role in clinical practice,  education, and research. Building on the epistemological traditions of caring  science and adaptation theory, it introduces the AI-Enhanced Caring Adaptation  Theory (AI-CAT) as a conceptual framework that situates AI as a collaborative  partner in care delivery. AI-CAT conceptualizes the dynamic interaction among the  Human Domain (empathy, ethics, and judgment), the AI Domain (data analytics,  predictive modeling), and the Adaptive Interface (trust calibration,  techno-empathy, and ethical co-agency), yielding augmented caring. The framework  asserts that AI can amplify human compassion and moral reasoning when guided by  nursing theory and ethical reflection. It also delineates implications for  education, practice, and policy, advocating for digital literacy, critical  reflection, and equitable AI governance. Ultimately, this discursive theoretical  paper argues that the essence of nursing must evolve not by surrendering its  humanity to algorithms, but by redefining what it means to care in an  intelligent, interconnected world. AI may transform how nurses think, but it must  never alter why they care.",

            "abstractNote": "AIM: To describe contemporary peer-reviewed literature on artificial intelligence in nurses' clinical decision-making. METHODS: An umbrella review of literature  reviews. DATA SOURCES: Four major databases were searched for reviews published  between 2019 and 2024. RESULTS: Sixteen literature reviews reported on 965  nursing artificial intelligence primary studies. The studies focused on  technology development and emerging performance evaluations, whilst real-world  testing or implementation in nursing clinical settings was rare. Rigorous  comparative analyses were lacking. While artificial intelligence demonstrates  promise in decision-making, challenges such as a lack of controlled studies,  algorithmic bias, limited reproducibility and insufficient clinical trials hinder  its practical impact. Ethical concerns, transparency and patient data privacy  issues pose barriers to AI integration in nursing practice. Ethical and legal  guidelines for patient privacy are needed and should be taught along with AI  literacy training for nurses. CONCLUSIONS: Artificial intelligence has the  potential to enhance clinical nursing decision-making, although evidence is  limited by too few examples of nurse participation during development.  Underutilisation in administrative nursing functions hinders implementation.  Nurses should assume a central role in the design and development of AI  applications to ensure that these technologies address the realities of nursing  practice. With such improvements, artificial intelligence can transform nursing  practice, improve nurses' clinical decision-making and ultimately enhance  consumer healthcare outcomes.             "abstractNote": "BACKGROUND: Global nursing shortages require innovative care delivery models. Virtual nursing is a cutting-edge model being explored.\nOBJECTIVE: This study aimed to examine the perspectives of clinical and administrative staff involved in a virtual nursing pilot on a medical-surgical unit and to identify best practices for future adoption.\nMETHODS: We conducted a qualitative evaluation using individual semistructured interviews with virtual and bedside nurses, nurse executives, and IT project managers implementing a virtual nursing pilot program at a medical-surgical unit with 35 private and semiprivate beds at the Mount Sinai Hospital, a 1110-bed acute care hospital in New York, NY. Interviews took place in the spring of 2024 and were completed via phone or Zoom, audio recorded, and professionally transcribed. Participants were selected using purposive sampling. The authors applied an iterative thematic analysis to transcripts using Dedoose. Claude.ai was used to generate code summaries for select codes.\nRESULTS: Of 33 individuals approached, 16 (48.5%) consented to participate. Nine participants were clinical staff (virtual and bedside nurses and nurse managers), and 7 were executive leaders or managers in nursing and informatics. Our analysis identified the following themes: (1) staff attitudes toward virtual nursing shifted from resistance to acceptance over time, (2) direct communication channels between virtual and bedside nurses were critical for efficient care coordination and model adoption, (3) admission and discharge processes evolved throughout the pilot implementation, and (4) adaptable staffing allocations were necessary to accommodate fluctuating patient census and unit demands.\nCONCLUSIONS: The main beneficiaries of this intervention, bedside nurses, found their virtual counterparts helpful following a few adjustments. Participants reported a perceived reduction in administrative burden, uninterrupted completion of clinical tasks, and they felt their overtime was reduced, which all increased their buy-in for this care model. There are several opportunities for improvement, such as real-time communication, unit-specific virtual nurse training, and flexible staffing for high-volume units. Our findings suggest that virtual nursing can address staffing challenges. Calculating the true return on investment for virtual nursing programs will require comprehensive mixed methods evaluations of such outcomes as care team and patient satisfaction, length of stay, readmission prevention, completion of nursing tasks, and reduction in overtime.",

            "abstractNote": "BACKGROUND: Bedside boards are used in various healthcare settings to support communication but their additional value in facilitating family-centred care (FCC) in the paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) has not been systematically studied.\nAIMS: To evaluate the implementation process of a co-created bedside family board (FB) and assess its effectivity and effectiveness to guide FCC six months following its implementation in the PICU.\nSTUDY DESIGN: Hybrid effectiveness-implementation design type 2, using validated questionnaires, structured observations and self-report surveys complemented by two focus groups and an interview.\nRESULTS: Validated questionnaires indicated high acceptability, appropriateness and feasibility of the FB. Qualitative data highlighted the need for ongoing awareness and integration into daily workflows. Effectivity measures showed that the FB accurately reflected child and family needs, although some items of the FB were used inconsistently, and their relevance varied by developmental stage. Effectiveness results demonstrated that the FB facilitated the inclusion of family perspectives in care planning and shared goal setting, thereby promoting FCC. Professionals and families valued the FB for making care more personal, aligning care with the child's preferences and family experiences, guiding family education and supporting care transitions.\nCONCLUSION: The FB demonstrated to be a practical and effective tool for enriching FCC in the PICU. It standardises the recording and sharing of child and family needs while allowing personalisation. Embedding the FB into standard workflows, sharing responsibility across the interprofessional team including families, and tailoring it to the child's developmental stage, condition and family context are essential for sustained use.\nRELEVANCE TO PRACTICE: A FB empowers families, fosters shared understanding of care goals and enriches collaboration in paediatric critical care settings. Successful implementation requires co-creation, contextual tailoring, integration with existing processes and ongoing training to maintain engagement.",

            "abstractNote": "Introduction: Healthcare workers (HCWs) are routinely exposed to distressing and potentially traumatic events during frontline care, yet receive limited structure training to manage such exposure. Psychological first aid (PFA) training has been widely disseminated among emergency responders and is increasingly being adapted for HCWs; however, its acceptability, implementation, and use in routine care remain underexplored. This study aimed to explore how an adapted PFA training programme was perceived, implemented, and used by HCWs in routine care, and to identify the mechanisms and contextual factors that influenced its impact.Method: A qualitative process evaluation was conducted alongside the delivery of the READ-Y (Rapport, Evaluation, Aid, Disposition, Yourself) PFA training programme in a Chinese tertiary hospital. Data collection included 3 months of observations of training delivery and 19 semi-structured interviews with HCW trainees, ward managers, and trainers/facilitators. Data were analysed using framework analysis.Results: Training was logistically feasible, consistently delivered, and characterized by high engagement in simulation and debriefing. Key fidelity elements of PFA training were maintained. Five key themes emerged: (1) positive reception of the adapted, blended-format training; (2) PFA was viewed as a pragmatic, stepwise tool for strengthening basic psychosocial support in routine care; (3) reported improvement in empathy, communication, and normalization of self-care among staff; (4) targeted skills development and peer learning as key mechanisms of reported change, fostering a shared language and support; and (5) multi-level contextual enablers (e.g. leadership endorsement, protected time) were identified and structural barriers (e.g. workload, burnout) existed that may hinder uptake.Conclusion: The adapted PFA training programme was perceived as feasible, relevant, and acceptable for HCWs, facilitating the integration of psychosocial support into routine care while promoting their own well-being. System-level integration and longitudinal evaluation of PFA training are recommended to assess sustained impact on patient and staff outcomes.",

It comprises two stages: first, the QI project team answers three questions to determine what the issue is, decide how improvement will be measured and collate ideas for change; then second, the team conducts plan, do, study, act (PDSA) cycles to test its ideas. Sufficient understanding of this methodology is essential for nurses, particularly nurse leaders and managers, whose roles include fostering QI. This article describes the Model for Improvement and how it can be applied in practice settings. The methodology is illustrated by a fictional case study on a nurse-led QI project for improving tracheostomy care.",

            "abstractNote": "BACKGROUND: Nurses pursuing a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree must complete a scholarly project that competently applies evidence-based practice. This review analyzed 31 international DNP projects conducted in a United States school of nursing between 2013 and 2024., METHOD: Extracted data included project title, country, completion year, student involvement (solo or group project), and available publication citations. Informal interviews with project mentors informed identification of key themes and lessons learned., RESULTS: Projects were implemented across 13 countries and submitted for publication. Mentor interviews and project records highlighted the importance of bidirectional partnerships, ethical engagement, sustainability, and institutional support. Barriers included logistical challenges, costs, and navigating ethical approvals., CONCLUSION: Global health offices within academic nursing institutions can facilitate international DNP projects by navigating challenges and fostering bidirectional learning and partnerships. Broader data collection and formal qualitative analysis are needed to strengthen recommendations for international DNP project implementation.",

            "abstractNote": "Children's assent is an ethical and legal requirement for research that involves them. Nevertheless, studies suggest that children with cancer are not always involved in research decisions. This raises important ethical questions about how children's participation in assent should be supported and on what ethical grounds. In this paper, we explore three dimensions of autonomy in research with children: autonomy as a right, as a value, and as relational. We argue that it is important not only to respect children's autonomy but to also promote it as a value, by actively supporting children's autonomy. Central to this approach is an understanding of how relationships and trust can both enable and constrain children's autonomy. We suggest that children's autonomy may be supported in practice through capacity-sensitive participation, child-adapted and iterative information provision. This requires ongoing dialogue that is responsive to children's emotional, cognitive, and relational contexts, with particular attention to fears, decision-making challenges, and voluntariness. While concern for the well-being of children with cancer is essential, it should not be used as a justification to exclude them from the assent process. Respect for children as persons should guide recruitment to paediatric oncology research.",

            "abstractNote": "BACKGROUND: Simulation-based education is widely used to enhance clinical competence and communication skills in health professions. However, limited evidence exists on combined educational models that integrate simulation with structured counseling to strengthen empathy and privacy protection among midwifery students.\nMETHODS: This randomized controlled trial examined the effects of a two-component educational intervention-wearable birth simulation followed by seven weeks of structured counseling-on students' empathic tendency and privacy protection competencies. A total of 105 final-year midwifery students were randomly assigned to three groups: normal birth simulation (n = 35), breech birth simulation (n = 35), and control (n = 35). Data were collected at four time points using the Empathic Tendency Scale and the Privacy Protection in Obstetrics and Gynecology Scale. Mixed-model analyses were applied.\nRESULTS: Students in the breech birth simulation group demonstrated significantly higher empathy scores compared with the control group (p = 0.025). Across all groups, empathy and privacy awareness increased significantly over time (p < 0.001). However, the intervention did not produce significant improvements in the frequency of applying privacy-protective behaviors (p > 0.05).\nCONCLUSIONS: The combined intervention-simulation followed by structured counseling-enhanced students' empathy and awareness regarding privacy protection, although behavioral change did not occur to the same extent. Integrating multi-component educational strategies into midwifery curricula may strengthen both emotional and cognitive dimensions of respectful maternity care.\nTRIAL REGISTRATION: ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT05864859.             "abstractNote": "BackgroundEthically complex care exposes nurses to persistent moral distress, harming well-being, integrity, and care quality. Moral resilience offers a targeted response, but intervention evidence is scarce. Because narrative therapy enables meaning-making and identity re-authoring, it may cultivate moral agency and integrity.AimTo develop and refine a narrative therapy-based group intervention for nurses' moral resilience and to examine its feasibility and acceptability in a pilot study, with exploratory assessment of outcome trends.DesignA preliminary group intervention program aimed at supporting nurses' moral resilience was initially developed through a literature review based on evidence-based principles. The Delphi method and a pilot study were subsequently employed to refine and finalize the intervention program.Participants and research contextEleven experts from seven provinces in China participated in the Delphi process, bringing diverse disciplinary and regional perspectives. Feasibility was examined with five clinical orthopaedic nurses, who completed outcome assessments at baseline, immediately post-intervention, and 1 month later, alongside evaluations of intervention acceptability.Ethical considerationsThis study was approved by the ethical board of Quanzhou Orthopedic - Traumatological Hospital (Approval No. IRB-2023-047).FindingsNine studies informed the development of the initial intervention draft, which was refined through two rounds of Delphi consultation with eleven experts. The finalized Nurse-MRNT (Moral Resilience Narrative Therapy for Nurses) comprised four thematic modules: Professional Journey, Journey Obstacles I & II, Journey Strategies, and Journey Reflections. In the pilot study, descriptive trends suggested short-term improvements in mental health and occupational burnout and reductions in moral distress. Moral resilience scores increased from pre- to post-intervention; however, the overall change across the three assessment time points was not statistically significant in this small pilot sample.ConclusionThe narrative group intervention (Nurse-MRNT) was developed through a rigorous, theory-informed process and showed good feasibility and acceptability in this pilot study. Larger controlled studies are warranted to evaluate its effectiveness and sustainability.",

            "abstractNote": "BackgroundObstetric violence is a widespread form of institutional abuse that violates women's sexual and reproductive rights during childbirth. Although informed consent is a fundamental ethical, legal, and human right requiring adequate information and active participation, it is frequently absent or incomplete, even in non-emergency obstetric care.AimTo identify which clinical practices, according to their context (emergency or routine) and the presence or absence of informed consent, are associated with higher perceptions of obstetric violence. Additionally, it is to assess the influence of professional treatment on these perceptions.Research designCross-sectional observational study.Participantsand research context: 2,367 women who gave birth in Spanish public hospitals. Perceptions of obstetric violence and quality of care were measured using the Childbirth Abuse and Respect Evaluation-Maternal Questionnaire (CARE-MQ) and the Quality from the Patient's Perspective-Intrapartal Questionnaire (QPP-I).Ethical ConsiderationsThe study was approved by the Clinical Research Ethics Committee of Reina Sofía University Hospital of Córdoba and by the ethics committees of Ciudad Real University Hospital and Mancha-Centro Hospital.FindingsClinical practices performed without informed consent or adequate information were significantly associated with higher CARE-MQ scores (p < .001). Procedures such as episiotomy and oxytocin administration, when carried out outside emergency situations, had a particularly strong impact on perceptions of abuse. Negative evaluations of professional treatment were also significantly associated with higher CARE-MQ scores (p < .001). Identifying procedures with low consent rates and highlighting the protective role of respectful professional behavior, particularly midwife-led care, provides actionable targets to improve maternity services. Strengthening communication, ethical training, and midwife-led models is essential to promote respectful maternity care and safeguard women's rights during childbirth.",

            "abstractNote": "BACKGROUND: Academic burnout is a critical issue in nursing education. Empathy and emotion regulation (ER) are potential protective factors, but their interplay is poorly understood in Middle Eastern contexts.\nPURPOSE: The aim was to examine the relationships between academic burnout, empathy, and ER among nursing students in the Middle East, testing ER as a mediator and moderator.\nMETHODS: A cross-sectional survey of 1562 nursing students from 6 Middle Eastern countries was conducted.\nRESULTS: Higher empathy predicted lower academic fatigue (β = -.152) and disengagement (β = -.180) and higher perceived academic performance (β =.207). ER mediated the effects of empathy on disengagement and performance and significantly moderated the empathy-fatigue relationship.\nCONCLUSIONS: Empathy protects against burnout, but its efficacy depends on ER skills and cultural context. Integrating ER training into nursing curricula is essential to cultivate student resilience and sustainable practice.",
