John McKim Jr. entered business with his cousins John, Isaac, and William \nDuncan. With a interest in business and banking, John Jr.also became a very \nwealthy man in Baltimore. He later was to become Presidentof the United States \nBank in Baltimore. He was one of the first ment interested in the Chesapeake and \nDelaware Canal when it was first built. John Jr. was one of the first \nincorporators of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. And too, with his interest in \nSailing ships, be became half/owner of the \"Ann McKim\" with his cousin Isaac. \nJohn Jr. was the father of John S. McKim who was to marry Catherine Liburne \nHarrison, sister of President Harrison. Randolph Harrison McKim, born in 1842 in Baltimore, Maryland, was the son of a prominent businessman. McKim attended the University of Virginia until the Civil War began, at which time he joined the Confederate army. McKim served in First Maryland Infantry and as chaplain for the Second Virginia Cavalry.

Its fate was shared by the old McKim mansion which became Johnson Square in 1878. It was taken over by a regiment of Michigan volunteers and later transformed into a general hospital.
