In this study, ceiling radiant cooling panel, mechanical ventilation with fan coil unit (FCU) and 100% fresh air are used. Temperature sensors are located at different locations inside the conditioned space in order to sense dry bulb temperatures, relative humidity to compare it with standard \nASHRAE comfort values.             "abstractNote": "The present analysis is focused on the investigation of airflows within enclosed spaces. Different aspects related to the energy efficiency of buildings, to the protection against fire hazards and to the level of perceived comfort are dealt with. The building envelope acts as interface between theindoor and the outdoor environment, thus playing a role of key significance in maintaining indoor comfort conditions and in reducing their energy requirements. Recently, after being considered merely as a box, the role of the envelope has been  revised to become a system that enables the regulation of the indoor climate takingadvantage of natural resources for heating, cooling, ventilation and lighting. The envelope energy performance influences the relationship between indoor and outdoor climate, thus affecting the agreement between the ambient people is exposed to and the ideal ambient people would like to live in. It also plays a role on the possible recourse to physical phenomena that can be potentially used for users’ comfort or for having an energy efficient building. The energy related to ensuring thermal comfort within non industrial buildings is recognized of representing as much as 60-70% of total energy use. It caused a rising interest for \ntaking advantage of natural, or “passive”, resources for winter heating and for summer cooling. The term passive refers to heating or cooling techniques that do not depend on energy-consuming mechanical components. This thesisdeals with the evaluation of natural ventilation potential. Natural ventilation  is defined as being the process of supplying and removing air through an indoor space  by natural means. Its most attractive feature is the ability to combine a reduction in air conditioning related costs to the capability, when climate and operating conditions are favorable, of ensuring ventilation rates consistent with acceptable indoorair quality and temperature control. Passive cooling building design attempts to integrate the principles of natural ventilation into the building exterior envelope. The thermal performance of ventilated roofs and of ventilated facades is debated. The uncertainty about practicing a control on airflows and the unreliability related to the stochastic nature  of its driving forces are recognized as being serious challenges to the development of natural ventilation technique. Hybrid technology represents the attempt of combining the  benefits of both ventilation strategies in a unique system. An application of the hybrid concepts to a real building is presented. Mechanical ventilation is exploited for  heat recovery in winter and for meeting ventilation objectives when natural forces  are poor. Natural ventilation is applied for indoor air quality and temperature control. In particular, a system of self regulating vents adjusting ventilation rates on thelevel of indoor relative humidity is analyzed. The effects of different ventilation strategies on the overall thermal performance are addressed. The analyzed ventilationstrategies include heat recovery ventilation, natural ventilation and ventilation bymeans of earth-air heat exchangers \n(ground tubes). The following aspects are taken into account as parameters for the comparison: outdoor climatic conditions, building envelope characteristics and building internal heat gains. Fire is one of the most dangerous disasters. The effects of fires in buildings are object of fire precautions required by national regulations and codes of practice. Comprehensive prescriptive regulations may result in not being suitable for large and complex buildings. Fire Safety Engineering is defined as the application of engineering principles based on the knowledge of human behaviorand on the scientific understanding of the phenomena of fire and its effects, to save life, protect property and preserve the environment and the heritage. The application of computerized tools for predicting the spread of smoke and heat from fires  is presented. These techniques are increasingly used as general tools for fire safety  engineering, as a consequence of the advent of performance-based codes. Network models and CFD predictions are compared. In the adopting computational fluid dynamics, a number of important model parameters, such as the resolution of the numericalgrid and the characterization of the heat release rate, are assessed. Changing passenger demographics, the advent of ultra-long-haul services and specific cabin air issues such as reduced levels of relativehumidity and worries about SARS spread, have all combined to increase concerns about the impact of aircraft cabin environment on the health and well-being of passengers in commercial planes. The key objective of the ICE (“Ideal Cabin Environment”) project is to provide better knowledge on the effects of cabin environmental parameters, including for the first time cabin pressure, on the health and comfort of passengers in commercial aircrafts. ICE takes advantage of the results made available by anexperimental campaign on adult volunteers using unique large-scale aircraft cabin environment facilities - the Flight Test Facility (FTF) at IBP Fraunhofer in Hozkirchen, Germany, and the Aircraft Cabin Environment (ACE) at BRE in Garston, UK and by in-flight monitoring. ICE results are expected to contribute to prEN 2222:  Aircraft integrated air quality and pressure standards, criteria and determination methods.This draft will contain the first scientifically health based standard for cabin parameters appropriate to the spectrum of the flying public.",

            "abstractNote": "This paper summarizes the results of a large indoor environmental quality survey in office buildings, comparing green with non-green buildings. On average, occupants in green buildings were more satisfied with thermal comfort and air quality in their workspace. However, the average satisfaction scores in green buildings for lighting and acoustic quality were comparable to the non-green average. Comparing complaint profiles of those dissatisfied with lighting and acoustic quality, a higher percentage of occupants were dissatisfied with light levels and sound privacy in green buildings. Our results suggest a need for improvements in controllability of lighting, and innovative strategies to accommodate sound privacy needs in open plan or cubicle office layouts in both comparison groups.",

            "abstractNote": "Based upon Fanger's thermal comfort model, the numerical simulation was adopted to predict air flow pattern and human thermal comfort environment. The numerical modeling was used to research indoor thermal comfort environment on different air distributions in summer, numerical simulation results provide indoor velocity, temperature and PMV index distributions. Then, a laboratory experimental measurement at indoor thermal comfort environment in a full-scale test chamber was conducted by Thermal Comfort Monitoring Station to validate the simulation results. Research conclusions provide reference basis for the improvement of indoor thermal comfort environment, the design and energy-saving control of comfort air-conditioning systems.",
