"note": "
This article begins with discussing the large use of social media technology in students lives, in contrast to the use of the same technology in schools. The study focuses on identifying how this technology is integrated into the classroom. It suggests three standards that have to be addressed in order for the teacher and students to have a successful experience:
\n
Although we cannot yet offer any definitive conclusions, a number of hypotheses emerged from the data and we have presented three possible instructional design principles. All three of these principles seem to be fundamental in taking advantage of web2.0 tools to create an “always on” learning community.
• To promote an emerging learning community the Web2.0 tools need to be part of the classroom’s daily practices
• The community is the audience and the audience matters • Behavioral guidelines that support and encourage students to share ideas, take intellectual risks and
give and receive feedback are important for the offline and online community.
\n
The study suggests that students need to have the technology present in their daily academic environment. They discussed how blogs can be a very successful tool if done correctly. The article highlights successful experiences of teachers using Edmundo and of a teacher with students with emotional and behavior problems.
\n
The next focus area of the study was ensuring the activity had the right intended audience. Some students felt more comfortable using classroom blogs to express themselves as opposed to other social media sites, such as MySpace. They stated they felt more comfortable expressing their opinions and ideas within this environment.
\n
The last main interest of the study looked at establishing and maintaining appropriate behaviors and guidelines for the activity. The study identifies this as the most important stage. If teachers are able to create a safe and supportive atmosphere for students, they will be confident in sharing their thoughts and opinions of others'.
",

            "abstractNote": "Interactive tabletops are gaining increased attention from CSCL researchers. This paper analyses the relation between this technology and teaching and learning processes. At a global level, one could argue that tabletops convey a socio-constructivist flavor: they support small teams that solve problems by exploring multiple solutions. The development of tabletop applications also witnesses the growing importance of face-to-face collaboration in CSCL and acknowledges the physicality of learning. However, this global analysis is insufficient. To analyze the educational potential of tabletops in education, we present 33 points that should be taken into consideration. These points are structured on four levels: individual user-system interaction, teamwork, classroom orchestration, and socio-cultural contexts. God lies in the details.",

            "note": "
This article focuses on the usage of interactive whiteboards, doc cameras, and computer usage in the classroom. Most schools (in my county anyway) already have computers and doc cameras in each classroom, or some schools share a doc camera per hall/grade or however. But few schools have the interactive whiteboards. I have heard great things about these boards and how they have transformed teaching and learning, as this article states.
\n
Using a white board in the classroom creates a more interactive lesson. Instead of the teacher standing (or sitting), reading from a book that kids can't see, topics/problems/words can be placed on the board for all to see and students can \"touch\" and solve/work it out together.
\n
\"Ball (2003) states that the white- board is bringing about changes in traditional teacher-pupil discourse. Communication and discussion among the fellow students also occurs naturally as many students begin to feel more comfortable with one another in this kind of learning environment. Like the teacher, students are now able to both ask questions and provide answers, thereby shifting some of the learning away from the teacher. This discovery approach allows each student to feel more connected and in tune with the learning.\"
",
