Understanding of cycling behaviour and subsequent development of interventions has typically been undertaken using an individualist approach, often relying on psychologically based models of behaviour. This paper argues that Social Practice Theory (SPT) may be a valuable addition to practitioner’s toolboxes by providing an alternative means of understanding the complex dynamics between the elements that constitute the practice of utility cycling, allowing it to be considered as a social issue, rather than focusing solely on individual behaviour. This is demonstrated within the paper by the use of SPT to reanalyse quantitative and qualitative datasets that explore views and experiences of both cyclists and non-cyclists. Therein, the practice of utility cycling is described according to its three elements; materials, meaning and competences and the potential benefits of this approach are discussed; particularly its The intent is to allow a better comprehension of those elements representing interferences, which can influence user’s trip.\nField tests were performed in the urban center of Bologna, Italy. 16 participants were asked to wear mobile eye tracking glasses and cycle along a defined route. From gaze data recorded by the mobile eye detector, we analyzed which visual information are detected. By applying fixations detection algorithm and then a frame-by-frame analysis we calculated the proportion of fixations—number and duration-across different areas of interest. Proportion of fixations and fixation time are assumed as a proxy of visual workload. Thus, the relative frequency of fixation has been used to rank those elements that draw cyclist attention.\nThree are the main outcomes: first, an equilibrium of attention location between the central (trajectory) and lateral parts of the visual scene can be assumed as the optimal cycling visual condition. This condition results compromised when the presence of pedestrians is high. Second, discontinuities of the path (like intersections and crosswalks) and the presence of pedestrians are the elements requiring more attention. Third, the absence of physical and visual separation between cyclists and pedestrians seems to lead to a lack of attention to these risk elements.\nThese outcomes about cyclists’ visual behavior allowed to recommend design measures to increase comfort and safety on shared-with pedestrian-cycling paths. A very common use case is the collection of network scans with location to help the localisation feature of these devices. Nevertheless, most users are not aware of this spying. The collected data might represent infringements of privacy. One possible solution to keep gathering these data while maintaining privacy would consist in device-to-device communications in order to break the links between data and users. In this article we propose an approach to test the feasibility of such a system. We collected data from mobile users to combine location and network scans data. With this data, we test the accuracy level we can reach while using Wi-Fi localisation. We analyse how a new measure should be pushed and how many scans should be realised to provide location-based Wi-Fi. nécessaire de comprendre la relation qu'ont les utilisateurs avec le réseau, ainsi que la mobilité urbaine. Cette analyse peut être réalisée grâce à l'étude de données collectées au tra-vers de divers capteurs du téléphone (GPS, modules sans fil, etc.). Une utilisation intensive de ces éléments diminue l'autonomie des téléphones mobiles. Cet article étudie l'impact de la diminution de la fréquence d'utilisation de la puce GPS sur la précision de la reconstruction de la trajectoire des utilisateurs. Nous avons distribué des téléphones munis d'une application permettant de collecter ces informations en continu. Suite à ces déploiements, nous pou-vons simuler une fréquence d'activation du GPS moins élevée en sous-échantillonnant les données de localisation collectées. Nous avons ensuite eu recours à des méthodes d'interpolation linéaire et cubique pour reconstruire la trajectoire des utilisateurs. Nous faisons varier les valeurs des périodes de sous-échantillonnage et analysons comment l'erreur d'interpolation évolue avec l'augmentation de la période de sous-échantillonnage. Nous réalisons une première étude sur la totalité de la mesure, puis nous restreignons aux périodes où l'utilisateur n'est pas statique.
