A study of the source flux time history over 6 yr suggests that lower luminosity transient outbursts can be occurring in intervals of at most 1 yr. Joint spectral fits of the higher luminosity outburst using simultaneous Chandra ACIS and INTEGRAL ISGRI data reveal a spectrum well described by an absorbed power-law model with a high-energy cutoff plus an Fe line. We detected the 1.6 hr pulsations initially reported using Chandra ACIS also in the INTEGRAL ISGRI light curve and in subsequent XMM-Newton observations. Using the INTEGRAL data, we identified a spin-up of 94 s (P˙=1.6×10-4), which strongly points to a neutron star nature for IGR J16358-4726. This was\nsupplemented by a simultaneous observation with the Proportional Counter\nArray (PCA) of the Rossi X-Ray Timing Explorer (RXTE). During this\nobservation, the source was in a somewhat low intensity state, and the\npulse profile with both Chandra and RXTE shows a narrow dip,\ncharacteristic of GX 1+4 in medium- and low-intensity states. The\ncontinuum X-ray spectrum obtained with HETG and PCA can be fitted well\nwith a high-energy cutoff power-law model with line-of-sight absorption.\nInterestingly, we find that this low state is accompanied by a\nrelatively small absorption column density. A 6.4 keV narrow emission\nline with an equivalent width of 70 eV is clearly detected in the HETG\nspectrum. The fluorescence iron line, or at least part of it, is\nproduced in the neutral or lowly ionized iron in the circumstellar\nmaterial that also causes most of the line-of-sight absorption. In the\nHETG spectrum, we have found evidence for a weak (equivalent width ~30\neV) emission line at 6.95 keV. This line is identified as Lyα\nemission line from hydrogen-like iron, and the spectrum does not show\nemission lines from helium-like iron. U.", "lastName": "Zimmermann" } ], "abstractNote": "We present the ROSAT All-Sky Survey Bright Source Catalogue (RASS-BSC,\nrevision 1RXS) derived from the all-sky survey performed during the\nfirst half year (1990/91) of the ROSAT mission. 18,811 sources are\ncatalogued (i) down to a limiting ROSAT PSPC count-rate of 0.05 cts\ns(-1) in the 0.1-2.4 keV energy band, (ii) with a detection likelihood\nof at least 15 and (iii) at least 15 source counts. The 18,811 sources\nunderwent both an automatic validation and an interactive visual\nverification process in which for 94% of the sources the results of the\nstandard processing were confirmed. The remaining 6% have been analyzed\nusing interactive methods and these sources have been flagged. Flags are\ngiven for (i) nearby sources; (ii) sources with positional errors; (iii)\nextended sources; (iv) sources showing complex emission structures; and\n(v) sources which are missed by the standard analysis software. Broad\nband (0.1-2.4 keV) images are available for sources flagged by (ii),\n(iii) and (iv). For each source the ROSAT name, position in equatorial\ncoordinates, positional error, source count-rate and error, background\ncount-rate, exposure time, two hardness-ratios and errors, extent and\nlikelihood of extent, likelihood of detection, and the source extraction\nradius are provided. At a brightness limit of 0.1 cts s(-1) (8,547\nsources) the catalogue represents a sky coverage of 92%. Our identification is made on the basis of the 112 s pulse\nperiod for this object detected in an XMM-Newton observation, as well as\nspatial coincidence between AX J183528-0737 and previous X-ray\nobservations. Based on the XMM-Newton data and archival RXTE data, we\nconfirm secular spin-down over 17 yr with period derivative\nP˙~3.9×10-9 s s-1, but do not detect a\npreviously reported X-ray iron fluorescence line. We identify a bright\n(Ks=6.55) red (J-Ks=5.51) optical and infrared\ncounterpart to AX J183528-0737 from 2MASS, a number of mid-IR surveys,\nand deep optical observations, which we use to constrain the extinction\nto and distance of Sct X-1. From these data, as well as limited near-IR\nspectroscopy, we conclude that Sct X-1 is most likely a binary system\ncomposed of a late-type giant or supergiant and a neutron star.\n\nThis paper includes data gathered with the 6.5 m Magellan Telescopes\nlocated at Las Campanas Observatory, Chile.\n\nPartially based on data obtained at the W. E Mennickent" } ], "abstractNote": "Symbiotic X-ray Binaries (SyXBs) are a recently discovered subclass of Low Mass X-ray Binaries. Their growing number makes them an important evolutionary channel of X-ray Binaries. Our goal is to perform spectral analysis and classification of the proposed counterparts to IGR J16358-4726 and IGR J16393-4643 and to establish their nature as X-ray systems. We used the ESO/UT1 ISAAC spectrograph to observe the proposed counterparts to the two sources, obtaining K-band medium resolution spectra (R = 500) with a S/N > 140. Data reduction was performed with the standard procedure. We classified them by means of comparison with published atlases. We performed SED fitting in order to refine the spectral classification. The two counterparts clearly exhibit the typical features of late-type stars, notably strong CO absorption bands in the red part of the spectrum. With information from previous X-ray studies, we classify the two systems as two new members of the SyXB class. For IGR J16393-4643, we considered the most probable counterpart to the system, although three other objects cannot be completely discarded. For this system, we compared our findings with available orbital solutions, constraining the orbital parameters and the mass of the companion star. We continue the work of trying to reveal the nature of these hard X-ray sources, starting with analysis of X-ray data collected via focusing X-ray telescopes, in order to obtain arcsec accurate X-ray positions. We can then identify counterparts at infrared and optical wavelengths and try to unveil the nature of the sources. We analysed data from observations of 13 \\integral\\ sources made with the \\swift\\ satellite. The X-ray images obtained by the X-Ray Telescope instrument allowed us to find possible counterparts to the IGR sources with a positional accuracy of a few arcsec. We then browsed the online catalogues to search for counterparts at other wavelengths. We also made use of the X-ray spectral parameters in trying to identify the nature of those objects. For the 13 objects, we found possible counterparts at X-ray energies and identified the IR/optical and/or UV counterparts as seen with \\swift/UVOT. Fits to the spectra with simple models fail to detect narrow Fe XXV and Fe XXVI absorption lines, with 90% confidence upper limits of 3.5 eV and 2.5 eV on the equivalent width, respectively. These limits are commensurate with those in the very high state, but are well below the equivalent widths of lines detected in the high/soft state, suggesting that disk winds are partially state-dependent. We discuss these results in the context of previous detections of ionized Fe absorption lines in H1743-322 and connections to winds and jets in accreting systems. This is due to the combination of very low absorbing column density along this line of sight which allows the shape of the disk emisison to be constrained at low energies by the CCD's, while the tail can be simultaneously determined up to 30 keV by the high energy detectors. These data clearly demonstrate that the observed disk spectrum is broader than a simple 'sum of blackbodies', and relativistic smearing of the emission is strongly required. However, the intrinsic emission should be more complex than a (color-corrected) sum of blackbodies as it should also contain photo-electric absorption edges from the partially ionised disk photosphere. These are broadened by the relativistic smearing, but the models predict ~ 3-5 per cent deviations for 1/3- 1 solar abundance around the edge energies, significantly stronger than observed. This indicate that the models need to include more physical processes such as self-irradiation, bound-bound (line) absorption, and/or emission from recombination continuua and/or lines. Alternatively, if none of these match the data, it may instead require that the accretion disk density and/or emissivity profile with height is different to that assumed. From the\nblue edge of this feature, we infer an outflow velocity of 250+/-50 km s\n^{-1} . This is an order of magnitude faster than a typical red giant\nwind, and we suggest that radiation from the accretion disk or the\nneutron star may contribute to the acceleration of the outflow. We infer\na wind mass-loss rate of ~10-6 Msolar yr ^{-1} .
