This book is available as a wordpress PDF. A few questions are begged at the onset, such as what utility is public art and for whom is it created. An interesting investigation in this work is how the problem of homelessness can be negotiated with respect to public areas. The obvious implication is that this human condition is a problem to remove from public places.
\nThat piont is understood when taking into account the natural functions of the body and how people relieving themselves in the common space is not sanitary or contributing to the betterment of the space. Such behaviors should not be seen as performance art. However, public restrooms may help to curb one problem associated with homelessness.
\nI would like to add that chasing homelessnes away from our public areas is is a denial of the term public. All segments of our popluation deserve access to our public area. If this does not occur then the areas are by definition private.
\nThis is a much broader topic to address here.

This website has some great images of the Bellevue tram shelter and cafe in Zurich, Switzerland (my hometown). One of these images, showing the stop by night, was part of Ziba's presentation on the Rockwood station.
\nI appreciate the openness and bright nature of the project. The light projected onto the white underside of the roof illuminates the space and makes it a safer place to wait.
\nThe cafe in the middle of the 'Rondell' is open past midnight and creates a lively and active place with 'eyes on the platform.'
