Au lendemain de la défaite de 1967 appelée la naksa en arabe, une génération d’intellectuels syriens, égyptiens et libanais s’engagent dans l’écriture et l’illustration pour les enfants, et ce faisant ils se racontent et dessinent leur avenir idéalisé. La création arabe en littérature pour la jeunesse qui se développe dans les années 1970 est profondément animée par le souffle idéologique de son temps, mais elle pose aussi les jalons structurels, thématiques et graphiques qui inspirent la production contemporaine. Cet ouvrage présente l’histoire et le paysage de l’édition pour la jeunesse en Égypte, Syrie, Liban, puis il propose une lecture d’un choix d’albums étudiés comme autant de reflets et de projets de société. D’histoire en histoire cette recherche observe l’articulation entre l’œuvre, son intention, son mode de production et son message. Il s’agit d’une part d’archiver les mémoires et les histoires collectives et individuelles, d’élucider les héritages et les filiations des créateurs, de suivre l’évolution de leurs motivations idéologiques, artistiques, économiques. Ce qui revient à faire une étude du champ éditorial de la création pour la jeunesse arabe. In our introduction we pointed out some key figures of this invention (Leo Africanus, Eugene Daumas, Emile Carette, Henri Duveyrier, Robert Capot-Rey ...) then briefly presented the various contributions to the project, from a historical perspective. Indeed the Sahara-inspired dreams of today’s solar engineers are every bit as wild as the utopias of technicians from the colonial era. Similarly, the rumors fueled by media about AQIM are not very different from those once spread about the Senussi brotherhood. In the same way, the political thinking of the Tuareg in Mali and Niger is not so far remote from the thinking of the Moorish scholars of the seventeenth through nineteenth centuries. And again, the current migrations in the Sahara desert were preceded by other migrations, even if those took place under the duress of the slave trade.
