Las obras analizadas son Feliz nuevo siglo doktor Freud (2000) de Sabina Berman, La coincidencia (1994) de Leonor Azcárate, Tren nocturno a Georgia (1994) de María Luisa Medina, Nocturnos (2003) de Edna Ochoa, Plagio de palabras (2000) de Elena Guiochins y Oste ni moste (2002) de Denisse Zúñiga.\nEn las seis obras estudiadas aquí he intentado demostrar cómo una temática común--la construcción social y cultural del género y la sexualidad--establece un diálogo entre dramaturgas de diferentes generaciones. Argumento que en la narrativa de Belli existe una retórica del placer y en ésta, las protagonistas transgreden la construcción del rol de género y de sexo que se ha fijado para la mujer en la cultura de las sociedades latinoamericanas a través de diferentes mecanismos de resistencia que realizan por medio de su cuerpo. En este sentido, las protagonistas emplean por lo menos una de las siguientes estrategias: 1) afirman y revalorizan lo femenino; por un lado, maquillándose y vistiéndose de manera muy atractiva y sensual--lo cual puede interpretarse como una contradicción--; sin embargo, emplean estas \"armas milenarias de la feminidad\" (La mujer 16), no para convertirse en objetos de placer para los hombres, sino para ellas mismas; y por otro, manifestando orgullosamente su intuición, su sensibilidad y su conexión con la naturaleza; 2) desempeñan otros roles de género saliéndose de los patrones que tan estrictamente han sido establecidos para la mujer; y por último, 3) gozan abiertamente de su erotismo para redefinir su sexualidad y otorgarse poder.\nEl apoyo teórico que empleo para analizar las novelas antes señaladas se compone primeramente de las premisas críticas sobre la sexualidad de Lucía Guerra-Cunningham, Amy K. Kaminsky y Diane E. Marting. Además, las teorizaciones de Barbara Loach y Michel Foucault, principalmente, son utilizadas para explicar el concepto de poder y su relación con el cuerpo. This change is especially significant around the traditionally peripheral Comunidades Autónomas that are bilingual, bicultural, and are experiencing a revival of their nationalistic feelings.\nThis study focuses on the work of three Catalan authors who choose Spanish as their literary vehicle of self-expression. Juan Marsé's El amante bilingüe (1990), Eduardo Mendoza's La ciudad de los prodigios (1986), and Maruja Torres' Mientras vivimos (2000) are the works analyzed. These novels take place in Barcelona as it embodies the values of Catalan society, and exhibits many of the tendencies and social problems of the modern urban centers.\nBorder Studies are the theoretical approach. Therefore, I consider here the emergence of a border literature (and identity) in the contact zone between Catalonia and the rest of Spain.\nChapter II focuses on linguistic issues. The use of Catalan as the only means to express catalanidad is questioned here, while other textual strategies employed to reflect the linguistically diverse society are studied. Chapter III looks at the cultural aspects of the novels. Marsé, Mendoza and Torres criticize institutions, traditions, and cultural symbols on both sides of the \"dividing\" line, aiming to defy the concept of cultural purity and to show that transculturation has been in place for centuries. Globalization and immigration patterns also break the Catalan-Spanish binary opposition, thus becoming key elements of a fast changing cultural identity. Chapter IV analyzes Barcelona as an urban space where social relations take place. The work of social theorists Henri Lefebvre and Edward Soja is applied to the analysis, especially the concepts of \"monumental space\" and \"thirdspace.\" In Chapter V, Francisco Franco serves as a border which conditions sexual behavior.
