\"Our research was definitely more qualitative than quantitative, but there were a few sources of data that might be helpful… I suspect you have our future of failure report, which was the predecessor to pivotal moment – if not, that has a few things that should be helpful. Our biggest quantitative source was SESTAT, from the national science foundation. They have a lot of data on what scientists of all kinds do career-wise:https://www.nsf.gov/statistics/sestat/. What we found (and called out) was there isn’t a great way to figure out PIT types from the data they collect and define, but there’s definitely stuff that nibbles around the edges.

We also used BLS data on computer/math jobs I think (same problem, again) and this study: Lockard, C. Brett and Michael Wolf. “Occupational employment projections to 2020.” Monthly Labor Review Online. 135:1 (2012). Booz Allen and PPS had a study that is now pretty out of date but may be interesting too – that’s in figure 7. And just in general, the bibliography there has some random sources that might be of interest.

The authors argue that up until this point, the field of ICT4D has been drawn from a development discourse of uneven economic relations, problematic cultural epistemologies, and colonial historic circumstances. In much the same way that there has been a shift towards postcolonial discourse, they propose a parallel shift in HCI \"centered on the questions of power, authority, legitimacy, participation, and intelligibility in the contexts of cultural encounter, particularly in the context of contemporary globalization.\" The authors question design aesthetics and their requisite symbolic literacies, propose community-centric, rather than user-centric design, and encourage an understanding of cultures as changing and intersecting, rather than static and discrete, and propose an alternate formulation of postcolonial computing that focuses on engagement, articulation, and translation.

Audience fragmentation and online advertising atomisation have transformed existing business models and put into question traditional media management practices. Now more than ever, policy makers and editors are concerned about the future of newspapers. In this changing scenario, there are new media models that attempt to promote and preserve public interest journalism. Among them, non-profit institutions and community-funded platforms are the most innovative and relevant alternatives. They promote audience involvement using what is known as crowdfunding, or they are funded by grants received from wealthy millionaires. For these new models, profit margins and income are unwelcome. Despite the fact that they could be regarded as non-business models, they are actually changing the paradigm of public interest journalism while providing fresh ideas for traditional media. The aim of this paper is to explain the nature of crowdfunding by describing the context in which it takes place and considering its impact on journalism. We have created a database to identify all the crowdfunding initiatives around the world. The results highlight the emergence of these platforms and other systems that make possible crowdfunded journalism and investigative reporting.
