        "abstractNote": "A published version of the author's doctoral dissertation, including a short introductory study and a partial edition of the Arabic translation of the Samaritan Pentateuch with philological notes appended. Bloch carefully reexamines the views of Silvestre de Sacy (see {https://www.zotero.org/groups/biblia_arabica/items/itemKey/QMXS8HBK}) and Juynboll (see {https://www.zotero.org/groups/biblia_arabica/items/itemKey/DT4XRJ2R}) on the emergence of the translation and concludes that Abū Saʿīd must be regarded as its revisor and scholiast, and not as the original translator whose identity is uncertain. The edited text, covering chapters 1-11 of Deuteronomy, is based on MS: Paris, Bibliothèque nationale de France, Ar. 5, but has been emendated in some places with the aim of producing a text as close as possible to the one supposedly intended by Abū Saʿīd.
