La preferencia de la población por vivir en una casa unifamiliar, ocasiona su rápida expansión, incorporando las tierras productivas aledañas al tejido urbano. La inseguridad y la violencia en las ciudades es un fenómeno que ha crecido en los últimos años y en respuesta a este fenómeno, la población prefiere vivir en urbanizaciones cerradas o conjuntos habitacionales donde tienen guardias privados y el ingreso no es accesible a cualquier persona.
