contradictoires. Soit les périodes étudiées ne couvraient que quelques années, soit les études se basaient sur une seule source de données, ce qui rend ces différentes études difficilement comparables. L’intérêt de cet article est de mettre en perspective une période longue (1990-2012) et d’utiliser la totalité des sources de données en Suisse qui contiennent des informations sur les revenus (sept enquêtes nationales ainsi que les données fiscales). Cette étude observe ainsi l’évolution des inégalités de revenus en Suisse au cours des vingt-cinq dernières années en combinant huit sources de données.\nOn constate ainsi qu’en 2012, le niveau d’inégalité entre les revenus des ménages était semblable à celui du début des années 1990. Entre ces deux dates, les inégalités ont systématiquement suivi les variations de la conjoncture économique : dans les périodes de croissance, les inégalités augmentent et le fossé entre les hauts et les bas revenus se creuse. Cela s’explique par le fait que les plus riches bénéficient des revenus du capital et des bonus. Dans les périodes de récession par contre, la politique sociale a un effet compensatoire sur les revenus des ménages les plus pauvres, notamment par le biais de l’assurance-chômage et de l’aide sociale, mais aussi à travers les retraites.\nEnfin la comparaison entre les revenus du travail et les revenus des ménages montre une dynamique intéressante : les inégalités de salaires ont eu tendance à croître, notamment en raison de la forte augmentation des hauts salaires ainsi que du travail à temps partiel ; mais en même temps, la participation croissante des femmes sur le marché de l’emploi a, entre autre, empêché que les inégalités de revenus des ménages ne s’aggravent. Cependant, si l’on compare l’évolution salariale des 10% les plus riches avec celle du travailleur moyen, on constate que les écarts se sont accentués entre 1994 et 2012.
