A large number of pages with limited viewing of editing access - often in combination with rigid content - is a sign that the wiki is being used for purposes other tran those for which it is intended. [...] Especially in a corporate environment, you should always remember that the success of wikis and quality of the articles cannot generally be achieved through extensive restrictions, but rather, with a maximum of transparency and contribution. »</span> p. 390</p>\n<p>« <span style=\"background-color: #ccffcc;\">The edit and view restrictions that can be performed on any page are both a blessing and a curse for corporate wikis. Paradoxically, in companies, where the least degree of vandalism is to be expected, such restrictions are utilized very frequently and extensively, and are sometimes a prerequisite for being allowed to act as an author at all. The motivation for this approach is complex : </span></p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"background-color: #ccffcc;\">Especially in large companies, habit plays a considerable role, and thus, permission structures familiar from file servers, databases and other applications are also transferred to the wiki.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"background-color: #ccffcc;\">Confidentiality : a good deal of information is not intended for every employee, espacially in larger firms.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"background-color: #ccffcc;\">Verification. Content intended for the intranet is often closely inspected and approved before it is permitted to be published. You can generally count on that information being valid and, for instance, representing the official standpoint of the company toward customers. This, of course, is not possible in a wiki. However, since a wiki is part of the intranet, it is hard for many to identify the boundaries. In addition, the verified information on the intranet is often more desirable thant the consistently tentative data in a wiki.</span></li>\n</ul>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: #ccffcc;\">[...] Nevertheless, [...] it is vital to sensitize people to the fact that the high quality of the articles in the wiki cannot be achieved through compartmentalization, but rather through the largest possible degree of contribution and transparency. The more time is spent on administering a complex permissions structure, the slower the actual wiki work becomes. </span>» p. 392</p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Confluence</span> :</p>\n<p>« The introduction to Confluence is neither technically nor organizationnally trivial - in most cases, it's not even \"wikiwiki\". There are other demands to quality control and assigned responsabilities. Internal wiki projects are often perceived from a \"top down\" perspective and must compete for acceptance in a completely different way than the free and non-commercial community projects. The \"typical\" problems are also other ones. For instance, Tim Bartel, who surveyed approximately 200 companies about wikis for his dissertation, found out that the biggest problems in corporate wikis were a lack of participation and disavvantageous structuring. In contrast, vandalism, which is a considerable problem for Wikipedia, does not play a role in wikis of the business world. » p. 435</p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Collaboration</span> :</p>\n<p>«<span style=\"background-color: #ccffcc;\"> The introduction of a wiki is always an exciting process, because thought structures are broken open and collective learning processes set into motion. Wikis can contribute to collaborative and open relationships, but again and again, experience proves that collaborative writing and organizing with wikis must first be learned. \"Social web\" and \"collabortive innovation\" are fascinating expressions, but collaborative work skills cannot be assumed.</span> It, for example, group members copy finished text into a wiki, other users usually neither can nor wish to alter that text. Such texts give off the message that they represent something finished and untouchable. In order to develop something collaboratively, it makes more sense to start with an outline and key points and then slowly develop a text, or initially divide sections of texts among members.             "abstractNote": "Purpose -- The purpose of this paper is to identify and examine the major issues and challenges that impact the implementation of wikis as KMS. Wikis have been referred to as next generation KMS, providing an alternative to traditional knowledge management systems by addressing many of their limitations. However, research shows that there are cases where wikis have failed to achieve this potential. Further research on the range of issues and challenges surrounding the implementation of wikis in the corporate environment is required in order to enable organizations manage them more effectively and reap maximum benefits. Design/methodology/approach -- This paper begins by providing a review of previously published empirical studies on wiki deployment in organizations. The disparate discussions are then synthesised by identifying the major issues and challenges in wiki implementation. Findings -- Six major issues and challenges are identified including lack of a clear purpose for the wiki, wiki usability, integrating wikis into established work practices, social issues, role of management and organizational culture that supports knowledge sharing and collaboration. Originality/value -- It is posited that in order for organizations to successfully implement wikis, it is necessary to first understand the issues and challenges surrounding wiki implementation. This paper contributes to practice by identifying the key issues and challenges in the implementation of wikis and suggesting strategies for using wikis to manage knowledge effectively. Building on this review, we critically analyse the findings and propose a model for the implementation of wikis which addresses these issues and identifies research areas that further need to be investigated.             "abstractNote": "Multiple companies are already social software enabled. Enterprise wikis are the most frequently used type. The best-known example of a wiki is the online encyclopedia Wikipedia. Using Wikipedia as an example, multiple companies establish an internal wiki encyclopedia. There are also other purposes for which enterprise wikis can be used. Some companies use the wiki as a news portal, discussion platform, or as a project management tool. In research there is still no adequate systematization of the possible uses of wikis. Therefore, this paper examines the different application scenarios of enterprise wikis and to explore application scenario-related motivational factors. To examine the application scenarios of wikis, a qualitative-oriented case study on the internal wiki of the company, T-Systems Multimedia Solutions GmbH was conducted. Also, the Atlassian Confluence based wiki called 'TeamWeb' in which was introduced in 2008 and has gradually established itself as a global Intranet. A peculiarity of this is that it is not strictly specified, how the staff work with it. In this way, over time many different application scenarios have been established, and now about 56,000 wiki pages in TeamWeb. These wiki pages were analyzed and categorized to application scenarios.             "abstractNote": "Antecedents of adoption and diffusion in time-honored models such as the technology acceptance model and innovation diffusion theory may not provide sufficient measures for newer Web 2.0 technologies such as wikis. This research examines two potential extensions to the basic tenets of user acceptance: reciprocity expectation and personal innovativeness in information technology (IT). The research also examines an advancing technology: wiki technology-based knowledge management systems. Based on the results of an online survey, partial least squares analysis is used to evaluate the proposed model and provide comparative results for traditional knowledge management systems and wikis. Of the 170 respondents, 46 indicated wiki-based systems as their primary knowledge management system, while 124 indicated non-wiki-based systems as the primary system. The results indicate the set of factors influencing usage are different than the factors influencing infusion. Further, non-wiki-based versus newer wiki-based knowledge management systems have different sets of factors affecting usage and infusion. Both extensions to the base model have a greater impact on wiki-based systems as opposed to non-wiki-based systems. Reciprocity expectation was found to have a contradictory significant negative influence on infusion of wikis. Additionally, personal innovativeness in IT moderates the usage and infusion of wikis more so than for traditional knowledge management systems. These results support a more robust model for analyzing the utilization of such technologies.",

            "abstractNote": "Depuis un certain temps, le monde de l'Internet est marqué par une façon originale de collaborer : les Wikis ou sites Web permettant aux internautes de participer facilement à la rédaction de leurs contenus. De nos jours, le Wiki le plus connu est Wikipedia, une encyclopédie libre, multilingue, écrite de façon collaborative par des volontaires. Comment expliquer qu'un ensemble d'individus qui ne se connaissent pas nécessairement et qui travaillent dans un environnement ouvert à tout le monde, parviennent à rédiger ensemble un document tel qu'un article d'encyclopédie? Quelles sont les interventions effectuées par ces personnes et comment s'enchaînent-elles au cours d'une collaboration de façon à assurer la qualité du document? Dans ce mémoire, nous mettons en évidence les manifestations \ndes mécanismes de collaboration, tels que le maintien \nde la cohérence et la recherche d'un consensus, qui d'une rédaction collaborative des contenus par les Wikistes. Nous utilisons particulièrement l'extraction des motifs séquentiels, une technique de la fouille de données pour extraire des séquences d'interventions répétitives à partir des historiques des modifications ou journaux des pages. Ces derniers documentent les changements apportés par les participants dans le processus de rédaction des contenus sur un Wiki. Dans un premier temps, nous allons constituer une classification (ou taxonomie) des interventions basée sur leurs aspects syntaxique (ou type de modification) et sémantique. Dans un second temps, nous allons identifier des interventions à partir des journaux de Wikipedia et les organiser dans des séquences. Ces dernières vont par la suite annotées en utilisant la taxonomie des interventions puis être analysées afin d'en extraire des séquences (de categories) d'interventions répétitives.",
