"note": "<p>Seems like the suggested best teaching practices are also totally not consistent with \"flipped\" education:</p>\n<p><em>You propose something called “reality pedagogy,” but what is it?</em><br /><br /><em>Reality pedagogy is an approach to teaching and learning that focuses on the realities of youth experiences as the anchor of instruction. It’s the idea that every young person who comes into the classroom has realities that vary from the realities of the teacher, especially if that teacher is from a different ethnic, racial, cultural and socioeconomic background. It holds that uniqueness about the youth experience as a fundamental and essential piece of teaching and learning. Before you teach content, you first teach to understand the youth experience. If you understand the youth experience, that allows you to deliver content more effectively and that better allows you to deal with classroom management.</em><br /><br /><em>Once teachers believe that, they can enact this first of what I call the 7 C’s: a co-generative dialogue which, in many ways, takes the structure of hip-hop cipher. They then learn to co-teach so kids can teach the classes along with their peers. Teachers can develop cosmopolitanism which allows students to feel they’re responsible for the classroom and the operations of the class. You can focus on context, which is learning the environment and the neighborhood the kids come from and how you can incorporate that into the classroom. Then you can focus on content which is knowing that you don’t know all the answers. A child would rather learn from somebody who can say “here is where my content expertise ends so let’s learn together” as opposed to someone saying “you must learn what I know.”</em><br /><br /><em>After content is competition. And finally there’s curation. It’s really an opportunity for the teachers to be able to research their own practice, take video of themselves and have kids give them feedback. It’s collecting artifacts from teaching and learning to teach better in the future.</em></p>",

The woman kneeling to the left of Diggs mimes the part of the slave with whom Jefferson had children, Sally Hemings. Photo credit: Joan Marcus. This past August, I went with a group of historians to see the much acclaimed, and now Grammy-winning, musical, Hamilton. Our timing was just right. The ticket prices were reasonable (for the Great White Way), costing nowhere near the astronomical sums people pay now. We were not disappointed. Everything that has been said about the ingenuity of the play is correct. The lyrics, the music, the energy and talent of the cast, in the words of one of the play’s songs, “blew us all away.” It was a special thrill to see people about whom I write singing songs with lyrics that included letters that I have read, analyzed, and cited. I bought the cast album as soon as it came out, and I listen to some part of it every day. Not in a million years would I have thought that I would be walking",
