Health demonstrates the individuals’ ability to balance the opposing forces of production and consumption. Overtly fat and thin bodies signify an inability to balance the conflict. In this article, the author compares different forms of self-presentation on social networking sites and online platforms to explore sign-values of the body in contemporary consumer culture. Websites such as Fantasy Feeder offer advice on how to gain social security benefits and use fast food industry “bundling techniques” to maximize calorie intake with minimal cost, suggesting that fat admiration participants are disruptive to social and economic ideals. In this paper I aim to develop some geographical research agendas that examine fatness as an important component of subjectivity. The paper begins by discussing some of the discourses surrounding fat and fatness, such as fat oppression, fat-phobia and fat acceptance. Secondly, there is an examination of some possible reasons why fat bodies have been for the most part absent from geographical research. Thirdly, the paper draws together the limited references that geographers have made to fat bodies, spaces and places. Finally, the paper offers suggestions for developing geographical research agendas that address fatness using a range of scales and theoretical perspectives. I suggest that this fetishism is also evidence of our fear and suspicion of converging communication and entertainment technologies, loss of gender identity and ubiquitous computing. I will explore sexological attributes of the mechanistic and penetrating Borg and reveal erotic allure in the mixture of machine and flesh. ‘Seven of Nine’ as fashioned and portrayed on screen will be discussed with reference to specific sexual subcultures and their erotic fetish attire and demeanour. In contrast to already long established discussion surrounding the ironic cyborg (Haraway 1991); the gendering and sexualising of technology (Doane 1990; Balsamo 1996) and cyber-feminism (Woolmark 1999); I will re-address notions of the sexy robot with women of discipline [in uniform] (Wills 2000) and the posthuman – that I argue are manifest in the Borg - and bring into discussion our need for understanding our exploration of physical sensation, dominance and submission, sensuality and arousal through the visual titillation of such on-screen science fiction spectacles. References will be made to the television series Star Trek Voyager (1995-2001) and the film Star Trek - First Contact (1996) amongst others; as well as short films such as the cyber-erotic music video All is Full of Love (Björk, 2003. Although A.S.F.R. was made possible by the advent of virtual communities, its fetishistic interests have historical antecedents that were documented in the early literature of sexology. Against their classifications of similar fetishistic practices as variations of necrophilia, as well as subsequent Freudian interpretations of fetishism as grounded in castration anxiety, this essay argues that A.S.F.R. is less about technology in general, or the artificial woman in particular, than it is a strategy of denaturalization that uses the trope of technological \"programming\" to underscore subjecthood. Like the trope of \"hardwiring\"— used within cyberpunk as a signal of the constitution of bodies and identities in relation to networked systems of control and power—\" programming\" serves as a metaphor for the biological and cultural matrices within which desire is articulated and pursued. \"ASFRians\" experience pleasure and agency through, in a sense, hacking the system, the visual indicators of which often take the form of a female android who has run amok, an image that is typically read as a threat. By drawing analogies between the uncanny artificial bodies at the heart of ASFRian fantasy and those fetishized by the Surrealists, in particular the disarticulated dolls of German artist Hans
