Un texte remarquable, bouleversant, commencé le 1er août 1914, qui retranscrit au jour le jour les conséquences de la Première Guerre mondiale à Saint-Paul-en-Born. L'auteur est l'instituteur de la commune : Prosper Dupart. Prosper Dupart connaissait tous les enfants de Saint-Paul-en-Born mobilisés de 1914 à 1918. Il les avait eu comme élèves dans l'école communale, souvent il connaissait leurs parents : c'est donc lui qui va rédiger les nécrologies des soldats morts sur le front, il va louer les héros médaillés au combat, il va raconter les événements qui vont lier sa commune à la guerre, comme les réquisitions, les journées dédiées à l'assistance aux Poilus, l'accueil des réfugiés venus des zones sinistrées, le retour des prisonniers et la construction du monument aux morts. Prosper Dupart va se mobiliser pour soutenir l'effort de guerre en participant à la propagande patriotique, en relayant le discours officiel : c'était alors le rôle des institutrices et des instituteurs.
