            "abstractNote": "In response to political pressure, President Obama authorized the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program in 2012, giving qualified undocumented young people access to relief from deportation, renewable work permits, and temporary Social Security numbers. This policy opened up access to new jobs, higher earnings, driver’s licenses, health care, and banking. Using data from a national sample of DACA beneficiaries (N = 2,381), this article investigates variations in how undocumented young adults benefit from DACA. Our findings suggest that, at least in the short term, DACA has reduced some of the challenges that undocumented young adults must overcome to achieve economic and social incorporation. However, those with higher levels of education and access to greater family and community resources appear to have benefited the most. As such, our study provides new insights into how social policy interacts with other stratification processes to shape diverging pathways of incorporation among the general pool of undocumented immigrants.",

            "abstractNote": "Illegal immigration is a salient topic for policy makers and for local units of government who are responsible for implementing policies. One particularly relevant policy topic is to what extent undocumented students affect performance in public schools, and if undocumented students do have an impact on performance, what can be done about it? Using Texas as a case study, this analysis finds that, surprisingly, undocumented students have only a marginal effect on the overall performance on standardized exams. Among Latinos, however, there is a statistically negative effect. Furthermore, evidence suggests that managerial skills can mitigate those negative effects.",

The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of the issues related to undocumented students and their access to public higher education<br /><br />Illegal immigration is polarizing the United States. No fewer than 900 bills containing the word \"immigration\" are being considered by the 110th Congress. Groups both for and against immigrants volley salvos back and forth that undermine authentic policy development and implementation. Pundits for immigration reform believe that this group constitutes a drain on national resources, costing the United States $45 billion a year (Rhymer 2004). Yet in 2007 the Council of Economic Advisers found that immigrants have a positive influence on the economy and make up more than 15 percent of all workers in the United States (Council of Economic Advisers 20 o 7)<br /><br /><br />The Department of Homeland Security Office of Immigration Statistics has estimated that 10.5 million unauthorized immigrants were in the United States in January 2005 (Hoefer et al. 2006). Mexico is the leading source country, with an estimated 6 million of its citizens residing illegally in the United States (Drachman 2006; Hoefer et al. 2006). California, Texas, Florida, New York, and Illinois are the main receiver states, accounting for 58 percent of the unauthorized immigrant population in the United States (Hoefer et al. 2006). Children figure heavily in this population: one out of every five children born in the United States is born to a foreign-born parent<br /><br />Plyer v Doe overview<br />Toll v. Moreno<br /><br />the IIRIRA (1996) restricts states from granting public benefits to unauthorized immigrants and often is cited as the reason to deny undocumented students physical and financial access to public higher education.
