            "abstractNote": "ABSTRACTRecent advances in analysis of precursors, simulants and degradation products of chemical warfare agents (CWA) are reviewed. Fast and reliable analysis of precursors, simulants and CWA degradation products is extremely important at a time, when more and more terrorist groups and radical non-state organizations use or plan to use chemical weapons to achieve their own psychological, political and military goals. The review covers the open source literature analysis after the time, when the chemical weapons convention had come into force (1997). The authors stated that during last 15 years increased number of laboratories are focused not only on trace analysis of CWA (mostly nerve and blister agents) in environmental and biological samples, but the growing number of research are devoted to instrumental analysis of precursors and degradation products of these substances. The identification of low-level concentration of CWA degradation products is often more important and difficult than the original CWA, because of lower level of concentration and a very large number of compounds present in environmental and biological samples. Many of them are hydrolysis products and are present in samples in the ionic form. For this reason, two or three instrumental methods are used to perform a reliable analysis of these substances.",

            "abstractNote": "The extreme toxicity and ready accessibility of nerve agents and phosgene has caused an increase in the demand to develop effective systems for the detection of these substances. Among the traditional platforms utilized for this purpose, chemosensors including surface acoustic wave (SAW) sensors, enzymes, carbon nanotubes, nanoparticles, and chromophore based sensors have attracted increasing attention. In this review, we describe in a comprehensive manner recent progress that has been made on the development of chromophore-based chemosensors for detecting nerve agents (mimic) and phosgene. This review comprises two sections focusing on studies of the development of chemosensors for nerve agents (mimic) and phosgene. In each of the sections, the discussion follows a format which concentrates on different reaction sites/mechanisms involved in the sensing processes. Finally, chemosensors uncovered in these efforts are compared with those based on other sensing methods and challenges facing the design of more effective chemosensors for the detection of nerve agents (mimic) and phosgene are discussed.",

            "abstractNote": "We have developed a rapid, sensitive, and inexpensive method for measuring the cellular protein content of adherent and suspension cultures in 96-well microtiter plates.  The method is suitable for ordinary laboratory purposes and for very large-scale applications, such as the National Cancer Institute's disease-oriented in vitro anticancer-drug discovery screen, which requires the use of several million culture wells per year.  Cultures fixed with trichloroacetic acid were stained for 30 minutes with 0.4% (wt/vol) sulforhodamine B (SRB) dissolved in 1% acetic acid.  Unbound dye was removed by four washes with 1% acetic acid, and protein-bound dye was extracted with 10 mM unbuffered Tris base [tris (hydroxymethyl)aminomethane] for determination of optical density in a computer-interfaced, 96-well microtiter plate reader.  The SRB assay results were linear with the number of cells and with values for cellular protein measured by both the Lowry and Bradford assays at densities ranging from sparse subconfluence to multilayered supraconfluence.  The signal-to-noise ratio at 564 nm was approximately 1.5 with 1,000 cells per well.  The sensitivity of the SRB assay compared favorably with sensitivities of several fluorescence assays and was superior to those of both the Lowry and Bradford assays and to those of 20 other visible dyes.  The SRB assay provides a colorimetric end point that is nondestructive, indefinitely stable, and visible to the naked eye.  It provides a sensitive measure of drug-induced cytotoxicity, is useful in quantitating clonogenicity, and is well suited to high-volume, automated drug screening.  SRB fluoresces strongly with laser excitation at 488 nm and can be measured quantitatively at the single-cell level by static fluorescence cytometry.[on SciFinder (R)]",

            "abstractNote": "Nucleic acid aptamers are emerging as useful mol. recognition tools for food safety monitoring.  However, practical and tech. challenges limit the no. and diversity of available aptamer probes that can be incorporated into novel sensing schemes.  This work describes the selection of novel DNA aptamers that bind to the important food contaminant ochratoxin A (OTA).  Following 15 rounds of in vitro selection, sequences were analyzed for OTA binding.  Two of the isolated aptamers demonstrated high affinity binding and selectivity to this mycotoxin compared to similar food adulterants.  These sequences, as well as a truncated aptamer (minimal sequence required for binding), were incorporated into a SYBR Green I fluorescence-based OTA biosensing scheme.  This label-free detection platform is capable of rapid, selective, and sensitive OTA quantification with a limit of detection of 9 nM and linear quantification up to 100 nM. [on SciFinder(R)]",

            "abstractNote": "A review.  Different immunoassay-based methods have been devised to detect protein targets.  These methods have some challenges that make them inefficient for assaying ultra-low-amounted proteins.  ELISA, iPCR, iRCA, and iNASBA are the common immunoassay-based methods of protein detection, each of which has specific and common tech. challenges making it necessary to introduce a novel method in order to avoid their problems for detection of target proteins.  Here we propose a new method nominated as 'immuno-loop-mediated isothermal amplification' or 'iLAMP'.  This new method is free from the problems of the previous methods and has significant advantages over them.  In this paper we also offer various configurations in order to improve the applicability of this method in real-world sample analyses.             "abstractNote": "Different immunoassay-based methods have been devised to detect protein targets.  These methods have some challenges that make them inefficient for assaying ultra-low-amounted proteins.  ELISA, iPCR, iRCA, and iNASBA are the common immunoassay-based methods of protein detection, each of which has specific and common technical challenges making it necessary to introduce a novel method in order to avoid their problems for detection of target proteins.  Here we propose a new method nominated as 'immuno-loop-mediated isothermal amplification' or 'iLAMP'.  This new method is free from the problems of the previous methods and has significant advantages over them.  In this paper we also offer various configurations in order to improve the applicability of this method in real-world sample analyses.  Important potential applications of this method are stated as well.[on SciFinder (R)]",

These mols., called aptamers, have been proposed as alternatives to antibodies in many different applications.
