"abstractNote": "Objective This study investigates clinicians’ views of health-related wearable technologies in the context of supporting osteoarthritis (OA) long-term management. Clinicians’ preferences are critical in identifying realistic implementation strategies for such technologies.\nDesign Qualitative study incorporating an inductive thematic analysis applied to identify key themes from clinicians’ responses.\nParticipants Clinicians, including 4 general practitioners, 4 physiotherapists and 5 orthopaedic surgeons were interviewed.\nSetting The study was conducted in a University setting.\nResults Participants all agreed wearable technologies could positively complement their role and enhance their relationship with patients. Perceived benefits of wearable technologies included monitoring patients’ progress, treatment evaluation, monitoring compliance and informing clinical decision-making. The device should be designed to provide objective data of patients’ locomotion capability in an easy and timely fashion via a simple interface. Data should be available to both clinicians and patients to provide them with the motivation to achieve clinical goals and allow them to take ownership of their treatment. The use of technology was also seen as a way to more effectively plan treatment and manage patients’ contact time saving time and cost.\nConclusions Findings support the use of wearable technologies to enhance current OA management and suggest clinical uses. Adoption of technologies could have implications on the effectiveness of treatment provided overcoming current barriers, in particular compliance with treatment.",

"abstractNote": "This study aimed to review the emerging findings regarding E-health interventions for eating disorders and to critically discuss emerging issues as well as challenges for future research. Internet-based cognitive behavioral therapy and guided self-help have demonstrated promising results in terms of reducing eating disorder psychopathology. Emerging findings also suggest that E-health interventions reach an underserved population and improve access to care. The use of smartphone applications is becoming increasingly popular and has much potential although their clinical utility and effectiveness is presently unknown and requires investigation. Important challenges include the diagnostic process in E-health interventions, the optimization of E-health within existing health care models, and the investigation and implementation of blended care. More high-quality research is needed to bring the field forward and to determine the place for E-health in our health care service delivery systems.",

"abstractNote": "BACKGROUND: In Australia, there is growing use of technology supported knowledge translation (KT) strategies such as social media and mobile apps in health promotion and in Indigenous health. However, little is known about how individuals use technologies and the evidence base for the impact of these health interventions on health behavior change is meager.\nOBJECTIVE: The objective of our study was to examine how Facebook is used to promote health messages to Indigenous people and discuss how KT can support planning and implementing health messages to ensure chosen strategies are fit for the purpose and achieve impact.\nMETHODS: A desktop audit of health promotion campaigns on smoking prevention and cessation for Australian Indigenous people using Facebook was conducted.\nRESULTS: Our audit identified 13 out of 21 eligible campaigns that used Facebook. Facebook pages with the highest number of likes (more than 5000) were linked to a website and to other social media applications and demonstrated stickiness characteristics by posting frequently (triggers and unexpected), recruiting sporting or public personalities to promote campaigns (social currency and public), recruiting Indigenous people from the local region (stories and emotion), and sharing stories and experiences based on real-life events (credible and practical value).\nCONCLUSIONS: KT planning may support campaigns to identify and select KT strategies that are best suited and well-aligned to the campaign's goals, messages, and target audiences. KT planning can also help mitigate unforeseen and expected risks, reduce unwarranted costs and expenses, achieve goals, and limit the peer pressure of using strategies that may not be fit for purpose. One of the main challenges in using KT systems and processes involves coming to an adequate conceptualization of the KT process itself.",

"abstractNote": "In this volume, we attempt to remedy this shortcoming of the nudge literature by comparing and contrasting the two primary tools for behavior change: regulations and technology. As the chapters in this volume discuss, there is a wide array of products on the market that aim to help consumers make better decisions and improve their lives. Financial advisors and personal finance apps help consumers stay on track with their finances. Numerous diets and recently popular wearable technology tools help consumers reduce the negative impacts of excess weight. Similar to policy nudges, these tools increasingly incorporate behavioral insights to become more effective in helping consumers overcome their biased decision-making.",

"abstractNote": "This study developed an intergroup competition mechanism and integrated it into a multi-touch platform for collaborative design-based learning to enhance elementary students’ engagement, learning achievement, and creativity. A total of 58 elementary students in two sixth-grade classes participated in the study over a period of nine weeks. A quasi-experiment was conducted to examine the effects of the intergroup competition mechanism. The two classes were divided into an experimental group (a class of 28 students in collaboration with intergroup competition) and a comparison group (another class of 30 students in collaboration without intergroup competition), and the students in both groups were required to carry out a tessellation design project with their partners on the multi-touch platform. Statistical analyses revealed that students under the intergroup competition condition had significantly better student engagement, learning achievement, and creativity than those under the no-competition condition. The results suggest that the computerized intergroup competition mechanism is effective. Based on the results, considerations in relation to the intergroup competition mechanism and the enhanced cognitive processes in multi-touch design-based learning are discussed.",

"abstractNote": "The majority of individuals with Type 2 diabetes (T2D) are overweight or obese, and this excess adiposity negatively impacts cardiovascular risk and contributes to challenges in disease management. Treatment of obesity by behavioral lifestyle intervention, within the context of diabetes, produces broad and clinically meaningful health improvements, and recent studies demonstrate long-term sustained weight management success with behavioral lifestyle interventions. Details of the Look AHEAD intensive lifestyle intervention are provided as an exemplar approach to the secondary prevention of T2D and obesity. The presence of behavior change expertise in the development and delivery of evidence-based behavioral weight control is discussed, and issues of adaptation and dissemination are raised, with a model to guide these important steps provided.",
