Une solution technique peut être définie comme une solution qui ne demande de changement que dans les techniques des sciences naturelles, n'exigeant que peu ou pas de changement dans les valeurs humaines ou les idées sur la morale.\n\nDe nos jours (quoique cela n'ait pas toujours été le cas) les solutions techniques soient toujours bienvenues. À cause des précédentes prophéties erronées, il faut du courage pour affirmer qu'une solution technique recherchée n'est pas possible. Wiesner et York ont fait preuve de ce courage; en publiant dans une revue scientifique, ils ont insisté sur le fait que la solution du problème ne serait pas trouvée dans les sciences naturelles.
