Rabbi Bernard Kimmel

East Lyme -- Rabbi Bernard W. Kimmel, 69, of San Gabriel, Calif., father of Dr. Elliot H. Kimmel of East Lyme, died Dec. 25 at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, Calif.

\n

In addition to his son, survivors include his wife, Shirley Kimmel; a daughter, Dorothy Kimmel; and two grandchildren.

\n

The funeral service was held Dec. 26.

\n

Donations may be made in his memory to a charity of the donor's choice. Calling hours are 7:30-9:30 p.m. Thursday at the Kimmel residence in East Lyme.

\n

Glasband-Willen Mortuary in Los Angeles was in charge of the arrangements.

[...] many Jewish religiolects share a unique literary genre, the verbatim translation of sacred religions and liturgical Hebre/Aramaic texts into the various Jewish religiolects (sharch, pl. shuruch, in Judeo-Arabic; sharc or sharch in Jude-Neo-Aramaic; tavsili in Judeo-Georgian; tefila in Judeo-Italian; tamsir in Jewish Malayalam; ladino in Judeo-Spanish; taytsh in Yiddish; etc.). The translations include the Bible, Midrashic literature, Pirkei Avot (\"Ethics of the Patriarchs,\" a tractate of moral and religious teachings from the Second Temple period and the first centuries of the Common Era), the Passover Haggadah, the Siddur or prayer book, the Talmud, and more.
