Great! A must-have for the conference!

5) McDorman, Todd. \"Promoting Undergraduate Research in the Humanities: Three Collaborative Approaches.\" Equal parts practical & pedagogical, McDorman's piece is a fantastic \"second-step\" (e.g. getting into the nitty gritty) of addressing the pragmatic questions of how to make undergraduate research in the Humanities fly. Better yet, he's been there, done those things -- his \"three collaborative approaches\" are all models he has tried, with ample evidence from actual interactions with students, and in the classrooms.

Interesting -- at first, this piece seemed unappealing because of the author (a prof. of Spanish)'s overt pessimism about the premises of undergraduate collaborative research; however, the article evolves into a studied consideration on undergraduate research in practice -- not as developed as McDorman's piece (\"threecollabapproaches\"), but it's an interesting piece to consider, because it adequately represents what in all reality is probably the view of many humanities faculty in very many university and college departments -- i.e. collaborative research with undergraduates?!? how could this be ?!?

Fascinating and in-depth look at three different collaborative approaches in the Humanities. This article is especially keen because it is both (1) realistic about the barriers to undergraduate research [i.e. few are ready to write at the level of peer-reviewed journals in their first years of college; and when they are, they graduate] and (2) immensely practical about solutions & strategies for developing research projects. McDorman includes both examples from his own experience collaborating with undergraduate researchers, and larger \"metholodological\" comments on bringing these styles of collaborative researches to other colleges & universities. Highly recommended for a conference reading piece!

Especially unusual & interesting is the middle section, \"Faculty Modeling,\" in which the author discusses unveiling his own in-progress research & academic writing in a \"writing workshop\" devoted to workshopping students' seminar papers!

This article is especially sage in recognizing how different models of research are suited to different types of students -- or different types of universities; and thus, I think it will be relevant to a wide swathe of participants at the upcoming conference

interesting idea, but, sadly, sort of a rote study of the process of \"undegraduate collaboration in the humanities\" -- disappointing, since this fellow is a Victorianist! Unfortunately, his project seems rather limited in scope -- a series of one-on-one collaborative research projects; rather than a vision for a larger collaborative research model in the undegraduate Humanities. Still, though, this perspective might be useful for many participant at the conference, for whom it might be more familiar -- or more feasible -- to conduct this one-on-one, summer-based sort of research.
