To date, there has been no systematic synthesis of the extent to which Open Science (OS) reaches these aims. We use the PRISMA scoping review methodology to partially address this gap, scoping evidence on the academic (but not societal or economic) impacts of OS. We identify 485 studies related to all aspects of OS, including Open Access (OA), Open/FAIR Data (OFD), Open Code/Software, Open Evaluation and Citizen Science (CS). Analysing and synthesizing findings, we show that the majority of studies investigated effects of OA, CS and OFD. Key areas of impact studied are citations, quality, efficiency, equity, reuse, ethics and reproducibility, with most studies reporting positive or at least mixed impacts. However, we also identified significant unintended negative impacts, especially those regarding equity, diversity and inclusion. Overall, the main barrier to academic impact of OS is lack of skills, resources and infrastructure to effectively re-use and build on existing research. Unlike digitization, digitalization is a transformation to improve processes by leveraging digital technologies and digitized data. The cyberspace has evolved from a hardware internetworking infrastructure to the notion of a virtual environment, transforming how people, business and government interact and operate. Through this transformation, lots of personal data are captured which individuals have no ownership or control over, threatening their privacy. It is therefore necessary for the data owners to have control over the ownership, custody and utilization of their data and to protect one's digital assets and identity through proper data governance, cybersecurity control and privacy protection. This results in the notions of data sovereignty and digital sovereignty - two conceptually related terms, but different focuses. This paper first explains these two concepts in terms of their guiding principles, laws and regulations requirements, and analyse and discuss the technical challenges of implementing these requirements. Next, to understand the emerging trend shift in digital sovereignty towards individuals to take complete control of the security and privacy of their own digital assets, this paper conducts a systematic study and analysis of Self-Sovereign Identity, and discuss existing solutions and point out that an efficient key management system, scalability and interoperability of the solutions and "abstractNote": "Indigenous Peoples have historically been targets of extractive research that has led to little to no benefit. In genomics, such research not only exposes communities to harms and risks of misuse, but also deprives such communities of potential benefits. Tribes in the US have been exercising their sovereignty to limit this extractive practice by adopting laws and policies to govern research on their territories and with their citizens. Federally and state recognized tribes are in the strongest position to assert research oversight. Other tribes lack the same authority, given that federal and state governments do not recognize their rights to regulate research, resulting in varying levels of oversight by tribes. These governance measures establish collective protections absent from the US federal government’s research oversight infrastructure, while setting expectations regarding benefits to tribes as political collectives. Using a legal epidemiology approach, the paper discusses findings from a review of Tribal research legislation, policy, and administrative materials from 26 tribes in the US. The discussion specifies issues viewed by tribes as facilitators and barriers to securing benefits from research for their nations and members/citizens, and describes preemptive and mitigating strategies pursued by tribes in response. These strategies are set within the framing of the CARE Principles for Indigenous Data Governance (Collective Benefit, Authority to Control, Responsibility, Ethics), a set of standards developed to ensure that decisions made about data pertaining to Indigenous communities at the individual and tribal levels are responsive to their values and collective interests. This article also provides examples of the application and implementation of the CARE Principles in libraries and archives, including Community-Driven Archives, Indigenous Librarianship, Local Contexts Labels and Notices in Libraries, and Language Materials. This article concludes with recommendations for applying the CARE Principles in information institutions. While several agricultural biological databases maintain and curate GGB data, not all scientists are aware of them and how they can be used to access and share data. In addition, there is the need to increase scientists’ awareness that appropriate data archiving and curation increases data longevity and value and bolsters scientific discoveries’ reproducibility and transparency. The AgBioData Education working group aims to address these unmet needs and developed a modular curriculum for educators teaching the basics of biological databases and the findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable (FAIR) principles to undergraduate and graduate students (https://www.agbiodata.org/). stringency of their expectations that researchers make data collected in federally funded projects publicly available. In response, universities have increased support for public access to data collected by their faculty and staff. This article reports on researcher attitudes and behaviour towards data sharing at one such university, Iowa State University, at a time when the university was significantly increasing its support for formal sharing of research data. It finds that although sharing of research data through formal channels is limited, it is more common through informal channels, and that the effects of increased institutional support for formal data sharing appear relatively limited. Escape rooms are games that are completed by solving a collection of puzzles and have been shown to be useful tools for game-based learning. The paper reflects on the steps that led to creation of the game, including its technical implementation using Google Sites and gives an overview of how the game was used and feedback it received. Readers are welcome to use the paper as guidance for reusing the escape room for their own events or as inspiration for building a similar escape room for their own purpose. It enables researchers to share their materials via dedicated workflows, services and infrastructures and ultimately is intended to ensure that data – and in particular datasets underlying published results — are well documented, curated, persistent, interoperable, reusable, citable, attributable, quality assured and discoverable. Needless to say, data publishing workflows potentially have an enormous impact on researchers, research practices and publishing paradigms, as well as on funding strategies, and career and research evaluations.\n It is crucial for all stakeholders to understand the options for data publishing workflows and to be aware of emerging standards and best practices. To that end, the RDA-WDS Data Publishing Workflows group set out to survey the current data publishing workflow landscape across disciplines while at the same time paying attention to discipline-specific characteristics. We looked at a diverse set of workflows, including basic self-publishing services, institutional data repositories, curated data repositories, and joint data journal and repository arrangements to identify common components and standard practices. This permitted us to identify, analyze and categorize the main building blocks comprising data publishing workflows. We wanted to understand how workflows differ based on the desired outputs and how community needs play a role in workflows. Interestingly, we found that core concepts are congruent across disciplines and data publishing workflows.\n The present paper describes our findings and presents them as components of a data publishing reference model. Based on the assessment of the current data publishing landscape, we highlight important gaps and challenges to consider, especially when dealing with more complex workflows and their integration into the wider community frameworks. We conclude the paper with recommendations to advance data publishing in line with the identified standards. It is our hope that as more research communities seek to publish data associated with their research, they will build on one or more of the components identified in creating their own workflows and The assessment of data management plans provides one measure to evaluate how data are planned to be shared and a first step down the road towards shareable data.
