The current trends of energy supply and demand are not sustainable because of the expected huge gap between demand and supply in the future. The fossil fuels resources are limited and use of these fuels has a negative impact in the environment. Holding energy at a secure level and global climate at a safe level require integration of renewable energy technologies (RETs) in the energy supply-mix. Development of RETs in a country depends on its renewable energy readiness (RE-Readiness) that indicates the gaps and strengths of their development. In light of the various initiatives proposed to turn North Africa into a renewable energy producer and extend its electricity supply to its neighboring European counties, it demands to assess the RE-Readiness. The main object of this paper is to develop and disseminate an assessment framework to find North African countries RE-Readiness for deployment of RETs. This framework is adopted in which the paper applies a consistent methodology across all the North African countries׳ to assess the present state of infrastructure, institutions and human capital factors to adopt and deploy RETs. Each of the factors is assigned a weight and a score between 1 and 7, with 1 being the lowest and 7 the highest score. From this developed assessment framework, it is found Morocco received the highest RE-Readiness score means that the country is more ready to invest in RETs than the other countries in North Africa. Compared with other sectors, however, industrial energy modelling has received less attention due to the variety of sub-sectors, impact of energy-saving measures on product qualities and statistical problems. This paper explains how the industry sector is modelled in the World Energy Outlook and presents energy-saving opportunities from energy efficiency in the sector. Using the World Energy Model, a partial equilibrium model, it is found that exploiting the economic potential of energy efficiency can reduce energy demand growth in industry from 1.5 to 1.1 % per year on average over the period 2010–2035. Savings arise from faster adoption of more efficient technologies, phasing out older facilities, process change and system optimisation, including electric motor-driven systems. Significant barriers to the implementation of energy efficiency are the requirement for short payback periods and concerns that change could interrupt production or affect reliability. In order to realise the potential energy savings, policy makers need to address these issues by improving mechanisms for capacity building, energy management and financing.", "publicationTitle": Efficient energy management and conservation is found to be the most cost effective and environmentally benign option to augment the gap between demand and supply. Planning Commission (2012) has estimated, ‘nearly 25,000 MW of capacity creation through efficient energy management is possible in India’. India is young nation with 30% of population as youth; hence this sector can be empowered with knowledge and skills so that they are capable of taking appropriate steps towards the energy management measures. The research focused on prevalent awareness level of youth towards energy and related concepts, so that an effective and valid capacity building module for energy management can be developed. Knowledge and skills of youth towards energy management was studied. The knowledge level towards energy and related issues was seen to be low with, 46.25% of sample scoring average and 33.75% scoring low on the energy conservation and efficiency knowledge test and energy auditing skill test. The prevalent awareness and application level of youth, was found to be inadequate. This lack in knowledge is seen as the first roadblock towards changing behavior and attitude of masses towards energy and its conversation Based on this criteria capacity building programme can be energy-efficient measures on a local scale. Based on a dataset of 322 municipalities in Northern Italy, we carried out a statistical analysis to investigate which factors influence the adoption of energy efficiency in municipal buildings. In particular, the analysis focuses on four categories of factors: (i) capacity building for energy efficiency, (ii) existing structure and competences for energy efficiency, (iii) technical and economic support for energy efficiency, and (iv) spill-over effect caused by adoption of “easier” energy-efficient measures. Our results show that capacity building through training courses and technical support provided by energy audits affect positively the adoption of energy efficiency in municipal buildings. The size of the municipal authority, the setting of local energy policies for residential buildings and funding for energy audits are not correlated with energy efficiency in public buildings, where the “plucking of low hanging fruit” often prevails over more cost-effective but long-term strategies. now account for more than half of China's total building energy use. Forty percent of the floorspace in China is in rural villages and towns. Most of these buildings are very energy inefficient, and may struggle to provide for basic needs. They are cold in the winter, and often experience indoor air pollution from fuel use. The Chinese government plans to adopt a voluntary building energy code, or design standard, for rural homes. The goal is to build on China's success with codes in urban areas to improve efficiency and comfort in rural homes. The Chinese government recognizes rural buildings represent a major opportunity for improving national building energy efficiency. The challenges of rural China are also greater than those of urban areas in many ways because of the limited local capacity and low income levels. The Chinese government wants to expand on new programs to subsidize energy efficiency improvements in rural homes to build capacity for larger-scale improvement. This article summarizes the trends and status of rural building energy use in China. Most energy-efficiency (EE) programs and policies to date have been implemented in industrialized nations. This article reviews some of the more innovative efforts, and also describes the EE policies being launched in today's emerging economies, emphasizing the wide range of energy markets, resources, and infrastructures. The focus is on information, financing, and regulatory policies that target efficiency improvements in the buildings and industrial sectors. The review summarizes the array of market failures and barriers, examines theory-based policy design principles, and uses metrics such as levelized costs and policy supply curve to evaluate policy options. One conclusion from this international review is that policies need to be periodically updated to track technology advances and evolving market conditions. In addition, policymakers need to develop a comprehensive compliance regime, since noncompliance issues not only result in a failure to meet policy goals, but also can produce a loss of confidence in the reliability of EE programs. This article describes many creative and innovative ways that policy regimes are being designed, implemented, and enforced, such that failures of the past can be avoided and successes can be replicated and expanded.
