We will demonstrate how a journal subset filter can limit search results. You can retrieve the filter we use following the steps below.

1. Join the “Public Health Search Strategies”group on Zotero.

2. Find the “Top Ranked Public Health Journals in Google Scholar”filter by John Pell.
\n\n
3. Copy the search filter from the attached note and add it to your keyword search in PubMed.

1. Think about the purpose of your journal filter. Describe that purpose on the worksheet below before selecting any journals. Keep your purpose in mind as you select journals.

2. Go to scholar.google.com
\n\n
3. Click on “Metrics”in the tool menu near the top of the page.

4. Use the “Subjects”Menu on the left to identify relevant journal sets
\n\n
5. Copy the titles that are the most relevant to you to use in your journal filter and list them in the worksheet.

1. Put quotation marks around all journal titles

2. Link titles with Boolean OR
\n\n
3. Add the PubMed field code [journal] after each title
\n\n
4. Put parentheses around the completed filter (hedge.)
