Cette ouevre peut être utile en cherchant d'art qui montre la souffrance de Noirs en France.\n\nIn one of the pieces of art in this collection, Alexis shows Asterix, a French cartoon character erasing a Black woman and turning her white. This piece shows how France wants to maintain its whiteness and transform those that do not fit this frame. This image is important because it shows the challenges and obstacles of Blacks living in France and their efforts to keep their identity and their hopes to be accepted as they are. In this piece however, the woman does not exhibit any resistance in being turned white. In fact, she even holds the characters as they erase her. This art piece can be useful when searching for art that demonstrates France's role in assimilating Blacks and the suffering from the Blacks to be who they are.",

They recognize that Fanon often resorts to violence when communicating with others and expressing himself in his writing. The authors also try to understand Fanon's allusion at the end of his book \"Peau Noire, Masques Blancs\" of a world without race. This collective text is important because it helps us understand Fanon's character and his anger towards issues regarding race. This writing would be useful when attempting to find the roots of Fanon's anger, to better understand the value of violence, and the propositions Fanon makes in regards to race and recognition. The source can be applied in various ways, particularly in the realizations of difference between the tourist and local’s perspective in France from a racial standpoint. The story also provides cultural understandings and insights into the Francophone world. Bertin discusses themes of racial understanding and the notion of “otherness”, a concept of tremendous importance in evaluating French culture. (Book in French)",

Particular importance should be attributed to the advertisements, depicting women in various ethno-cultural costumes, specified by the location of an Air France flight. Presenting a singular figure in a racially charged outfit, this source provides a modern contrast to the “Ya Bon Banania” images. This source is indicative of the recurrent nature of racism in French media as well as the development of such themes in a modern context. (article in English)",

The goal of this organization is to encourage and enforce diversity, as opposed to difference, because diversity implies equality. The invention of Blacks in France was a result of this organization. This chapter also discusses the “invisibility of visible minorities” and the fact that the color of one’s skin can quickly transform someone into a foreigner. I will use this fact to examine the manner in which Bilal is treated in France.",

La preservation de laicite par l’identite nationale francaise est une force dominant en France--This chapter talks about the new policies concerning Muslims in France in the 1970s. In the 1960s, France allowed inhabitants of its former North African colonies to emigrate to France, providing them with the same freedoms that the native french had. The Algerian government halted this process in 1973 in response to the discriminatory treatment towards Algerians; certain French people fought to defend the “pure race” of France, therefore didn’t support the influx of immigrants. The preservation of secularism through French national identity is a dominant force in France.",

This film is about a Kurdish man named Bilal, a refugee traveling to England to see his girlfriend. The authorities stop and hold him in France upon realizing that he is an immigrant. Bilal’s plan is to swim across the English Channel, but the problem is that he doesn’t know how to swim. Luckily he meets Simon, a french swimming instructor, and the two become close. This film introduces a new term that we have yet to see in this class: refugee. From the first uprisings in 1791 to independence in 1806, this work will allow me to really find a wide variety of perspectives when writing. This book also thoroughly examines the aftermath of the revolution through the New World (and the Caribbean in particular). Finally, Popkin makes the argument that the Haitian revolution was as important as the American and French revolutions, and this is something I will discuss in my essay.",
