"abstractNote": "Libraries have for years been using social media to offer their services and collections, and receiving a number of benefits that must be quantified. In times of economic crisis it is essential to show evidence of success resulting from the resources invested. To measure and evaluate those results, libraries should have a marketing plan for social media, in which measurable and achievable objectives are defined, target populations and the social media to be used are established, an action plan is elaborated, and indicators-both quantitative and qualitative- are defined, thus demonstrating whether the objectives have been achieved and the return on investment (ROI). "abstractNote": "This article presents the first steps towards a sociological understanding of emergent social media. This article uses Twitter, the most popular social media website, as its focus. Recently, the social media site has been prominently associated with social movements in Libya, Egypt, Tunisia, and Algeria. Rather than rush to breathlessly describe its novel role in shaping contemporary social movements, this article takes a step back and considers Twitter in historical and broad sociological terms. This article is not intended to provide empirical evidence or a fully formed theoretical understanding of Twitter, but rather to provide a selected literature review and a set of directions for sociologists. The article makes connections specifically to Erving Goffman’s interactionist work, not only to make the claim that some existing sociological theory can be used to think critically about Twitter, but also to provide some initial thoughts on how such theoretical innovations can be developed.",

"abstractNote": "The popularity and use of social media is increasing in Europe. It facilitates a new emerging international business communication culture, which can help in developing new business relations utilizing the wide range of online applications. However, there are no studies, which help, in particular, small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) to develop appropriate strategies. \n\nThis paper identifies and discusses the problems, which arose when administrating an online social media survey in 31 European countries, and gives a short preliminary insight into the results. The main finding indicates the existence of different social media etiquette rules both among countries, ages and types of use (personal or professional use). Results also show that in countries where no personal networks of the research team were present there was a complete lack of response, suggesting that there is a need to develop networks initially before meaningful information exchange can commence.",

"abstractNote": "Web 2.0 is a buzzword introduced in 2003–04 which is commonly used to encompass various novel phenomena on the World Wide Web. Although largely a marketing term, some of the key attributes associated with Web 2.0 include the growth of social networks, bi–directional communication, various ‘glue’ technologies, and significant diversity in content types. We are not aware of a technical comparison between Web 1.0 and 2.0. While most of Web 2.0 runs on the same substrate as 1.0, there are some key differences. We capture those differences and their implications for technical work in this paper. Our goal is to identify the primary differences leading to the properties of interest in 2.0 to be characterized. We identify novel challenges due to the different structures of Web 2.0 sites, richer methods of user interaction, new technologies, and fundamentally different philosophy. Although a significant amount of past work can be reapplied, some critical thinking is needed for the networking community to analyze the challenges of this new and rapidly evolving environment.",
