            "abstractNote": "Abstract\n            Well‐being is transversal to different urban‐related challenges such as increasing urbanization or adaptation to the effects of climate change. One possible response to these challenges is the use of nature in cities. The aim of this study is to investigate how the objective quantity of natural space near the home, the perception of these natural elements, and their perceived availability, moderated by the effect of connectedness to nature, could explain levels of well‐being. A survey was conducted among a sample of 1343 participants living in seven European cities. Data were collected online via a questionnaire. Indicators of the objective quantity of urban natural space based on remotely sensed satellite imagery were also used. Regression models highlight the association between well‐being and perceived amount of nature, accessibility to a community garden, and level of connectedness to nature. A moderating and negative effect of connectedness to nature on the association between the perceived quantity of nature and well‐being was also identified. Perception of nature seems to be a better indicator of well‐being than the objective one. Results highlight the importance of the social dimension of collective gardens in enhancing well‐being. Connectedness to nature could facilitate appropriation of natural elements and its effects on well‐being.",

            "abstractNote": "Abstract\n            In a context of re‐greening of urban spaces, it is crucial to examine the impact of green spaces on the population. In this qualitative study carried out in France (Nantes), 28 people with a plot in an allotment garden were questioned through semi‐directive interviews about the psychosocial impact of this type of space. Using thematic and lexicometric analyses, the different psychosocial benefits of these spaces are highlighted and put into perspective with the conflicts occurring there. The content analysis foregrounded the benefits of allotment garden regarding psychological well‐being, (notably through the feeling of flow), physical health, self‐development and social bonding. Nevertheless, these benefits are balanced by the different conflicts reported by the participants. By showing that positive and negative social aspects are significantly associated in the participants' discourse, the lexicometric analysis strengthened the idea that these elements must be considered jointly to better describe the reality of allotment gardens.",

            "abstractNote": "Research in building energy simulation increasingly focuses on modelling at the district scale to understand interactions between the built environment and urban microclimates. This study aimed to investigate the mutual impact of urban microclimates and cooling system efficiency. Using \"Solene-microclimat\" tool, which models urban climates at the neighbourhood scale, the researchers developed a sub-model to calculate waste heat emission from cooling systems. Parametric studies on various urban configurations revealed that factors like reflections in urban canyons, pavement albedo, and canyon aspect ratios significantly impact cooling energy demand. Cooling energy demand can vary by +1 % to +8 % due to surface reflections, increase by up to 10 % due to higher pavement albedo, and rise most significantly with a canyon aspect ratio of 0.5. For a realistic district in Lyon, France, during the 2019 heatwave, the study found that facade-mounted units increased cooling needs by 9 %, raised local air temperatures by 1.75 °C, and reduced the coefficient of performance (COP) by 10 %. Roof-mounted units caused a 5 % increase in cooling needs and a 17 % reduction in COP, with local temperatures rising by up to 19 °C. The study highlights the complex interactions between buildings, cooling systems, urban configurations, in predicting energy needs and evaluating outdoor comfort.",

            "abstractNote": "Numerical simulation is a powerful tool for assessing the causes of an Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect or quantifying the impact of mitigation solutions on outdoor and indoor thermal comfort. For that purpose, several models have been developed at the district scale. At this scale, the outside surface energy budget is detailed. However, building models are very simplified and considered as a boundary condition of the district scale model. This shortcoming inhibits the opportunity to investigate the effect of urban microclimate on the inside building conditions. The aim of this work is to improve the representation of the physical phenomena involved in the building models of a district model. For that purpose, the model integrates fully detailed long-wave radiative flux inside and outside. The numerical model is based on finite differences to solve conduction through all the surfaces and the radiosity method to solve long-wave radiative heat fluxes inside and outside. Calculated temperatures and heat fluxes are evaluated with respect to in situ measurements from an experimental demonstrator over 14 sensors and a 24-day period. Results are also compared to state-of-the-art models simulation tool show improvement of the RMSE of 0.9°C to 2.5°C on the surface temperature modeled.",

            "abstractNote": "This study aims to improve the prediction of building energy performance during heatwaves by developing an integrated approach in TRNSYS18 software. This approach incorporates microclimatic phenomena such as Urban Heat Island, airflow exchanges within and around the building, and long- and short-wave radiative exchanges. The developed approach was validated using experimental data from a district in Nantes. Validation showed strong agreement with measurements, for exterior facade temperatures, CV(RMSE) was below 10 %, NMBE remained within ±1.5 %, and R2 exceeded 0.91, for indoor air temperatures, residuals were generally within ±0.5 °C, matching sensor accuracy. The impact of overheating on buildings during the deadly 2003 heatwave was then assessed. The results revealed a 3 °C difference in the interior temperature of an apartment in the studied building, as well as an increase of up to 35 % in cooling energy demand when comparing models using TRNSYS alone (as a stand-alone building) with the developed method accounting for microclimate effects. These findings underscore the importance of considering microclimate influences to avoid underestimating or overestimating energy demand and building performance. In this regard, the developed model offers a practical and efficient solution, having demonstrated its ability to minimize interoperability issues between multiple tools and to significantly reduce computation time compared to CFD simulations, all while maintaining sufficient accuracy for thermal and energy assessments. Therefore, integrating such an approach is not only technically advantageous but also essential for accurate urban planning and effective energy management strategies, ensuring buildings maintain comfort and efficiency even under extreme weather conditions like heatwaves.",

            "abstractNote": "In a global warming context, solutions for mitigating urban overheating have been identified, such as high-albedo surfaces, urban morphology that allows for natural ventilation, and vegetation to provide shade and humidity. However, it remains challenging for stakeholders to adopt these solutions and incorporate them into the design of new neighborhoods or renovation operations. A software platform has been developed to integrate the necessary parameters for evaluating solutions, which are automatically managed in an urban data model. This model can aggregate geo-referenced data on a neighborhood scale, produce simple indicators, and prepare input data for thermal simulations of the neighborhood. The presented case study illustrates the use of this model for mean radiant temperature, shading, and wind in the urban area. The detailed maps produced are useful for adapting neighborhoods to overheating.",

            "abstractNote": "In order to improve the prediction of the building’s energy performance, it has become necessary to evaluate their interactions with the urban microclimate. Currently, there are few tools allowing to simulate the buildings energy consumption taking into account the impact of the urban microclimate with a satisfactory precision and acceptable computing time. In this study, the topic is addressed by investigating the effects of the local microclimate on the energy performance of courtyard buildings. To achieve this, an integrated approach in the TRNSYS software validated in previous studies was used. The analysis was conducted for 8 Mediterranean cities. The obtained results highlight potentially large discrepancies between the usual practice of building energy simulation, and the advanced simulation which takes into account local urban effects. This approach would improve to adapt HVAC system choices, especially by considering the urban morphology. Significant heating and cooling need variation were observed for high aspect ratio of courtyards within several Mediterranean cities.",

            "abstractNote": "Cet article présente une méthodologie développée pour reconstituer des fichiers météorologiques comprenant des vagues de chaleur futures extrêmes comme données d'entrée pour les simulations thermiques dynamiques de bâtiments. Des fichiers ont été développés pour douze villes dans le monde, réparties selon la classification des zones de l'ASHRAE à partir de données CORDEX. Ces fichiers météorologiques peuvent être utilisés pour comparer différentes solutions de rafraîchissement et analyser la résilience thermique du bâtiment à la surchauffe dans des périodes extrêmes futures.",
