"abstractNote": "Irresponsible \"Jack\" is envious of the camera that sensible \"Ralph\" has just purchased. How can Jack possibly save the money he needs to buy one for himself? \"Are budgets just for parents?\" the narrator asks, mockingly. \"If he'd do without extravagances he could save every week!\" Jack concedes that he should learn to budget his income, so he devises a \"cameragraph\" and attempts to follow it. This isn't always easy, but the narrator is always on hand to humiliate Jack whenever greed and gluttony surface. \"Too many movies! Too much candy!\" he chides. \"You can't have EVERYTHING you want!\" Needless to say, Jack does finally save enough money to buy his camera -- and probably had a good laugh at this film once the unthrifty fifties got rolling.\n\nProducer: Coronet Instructional Films",

The film warns children about the strange ones, the films term for pedophiles. Karen lets a strange man buy her candy and gets in his car. "abstractNote": "The author investigated the role of individual characteristics (self-esteem, social anxiety, and self-reported classroom participation) and peer reactions (peer-perceived shyness, peer nominations) in classroom loneliness in a sample of 704 préadolescent hoys (360) and girls (344). It was hypothesized that classroom participation functions as a mediator between self-esteem and peer responses. Using structural equation modeling, a measurement model and path models with and without self-esteem were generated. Model 1 confirmed the central role of self-esteem and the mediating function of classroom participation. Model 2 (without self-esteem) showed similar effects for social anxiety. The author proposes possible interventions that address classroom participation rather than loneliness or self-esteem per se.",

"abstractNote": "The impact of mass communications in America is manifest in the antitrust, wage, and hour laws and in the regulation of securities. But social historians give little or no credit to the role of the mass media in making possible the original Social Security Act. Medicaid and Medicare are the result largely of the mass propaganda of various insurance businesses drummed into the American people through the media for the last twenty years. Confronted with the tremendous increases in population and mobility, and the consequent enormous increase in the areas of public interest, the media have been swamped with an increase in news. In the circumstances, media everywhere have tended to raise the thresholds of their attention. This rise has had a profound influence on our governmental structure. The media now report only a fraction of our legal cases. Thus, we have an unofficial system of secret courts. The courts, bar associations, and legislatures are trying to provide a court system whose secrecy is officially instead of unofficially sanctioned. Attention has been focused on Washington, D. C., with the result that the nation is stumbling toward a parliamentary form of government. Thus, the media have both simplified and complicated American life-simplified it by making it easy to concentrate on a few great issues and political leaders and complicated it by making it impossible for many individuals to be heard when the mechanisms of society impinge abrasively upon their rights and lives.",

"abstractNote": "In the 1950s, the United States experienced a domestic religious revival that offered postwar Americans a framework to interpret the world and its unsettling international political problems. Moreover, the religious message of the cold war that saw the God-fearing West against atheistic communists encouraged an unprecedented ecumenism in American history. Jews, formerly objects of indifference if not disdain and hatred in the United States, were swept up in the ecumenical tide of “Judeo-Christian” values and identity and, essentially, “Christianized” in popular and political culture. Not surprisingly, these cultural trends affected images of the recently formed State of Israel. In the popular and political imagination, Israel was formed by the “Chosen People” and populated by prophets, warriors, and simple folk like those in Bible stories. The popular celebration of Israel also romanticized its people at the expense of their Arab (mainly Muslim) neighbors. Battling foes outside of the Judeo-Christian family, Israelis seemed just like Americans. Americans treated the political problems of the Middle East differently than those in other parts of the world because of the religious significance of the “Holy Land.” A man such as Secretary of State John Foster Dulles, who combined views of hard-nosed “realpolitik” with religious piety, acknowledged the special status of the Middle East by virtue of the religions based there. Judaism, part of the “Judeo-Christian civilization,” benefitted from this religious consciousness, while Islam remained a religion and a culture apart. This article examines how the American image of Jews, Israelis, and Middle Eastern politics was re-framed in the early 1950s to reflect popular ideas of religious identity. These images were found in fiction, the press, and the speeches and writings of social critics and policymakers. The article explores the role of the 1950s religious revival in the identification of Americans with Jews and Israelis and discusses the rise of the popular understanding that “Judeo-Christian” values shaped American culture and politics.",

The findings provided further evidence that two of the three ABCC-R subscales (Instructional Management and People Management) are appropriate for use with K-12 certified, classroom teachers.",
