            "abstractNote": "In this paper we explore how the concept and practice of globalization impacts teacher education in the United States, and our roles as faculty in preparing educators for globalization. We begin by locating the nature of globalization within modernity, and modernity's characteristic as that of constant change. We examine the sources, results, and implications of change within the international scene (First World/ Second World, and, Third World), and their (changes) implications for educators. We also problematize globalization by critiquing the link between progress and development. Because common nomenclature associates globalization with Westernization and the use of technologies to transform the world, we explore the role of technologies that make world-wide communication possible, and whether they (technologies) can be used to better the human condition as the Western and non-Western worlds converge and sometimes collide. Our perspective is that of educators who view the current world as one that is highly internationalized and intensely global, rendering nationalistic orientations obsolete. We also view education and educators as involved agents in the construction of a just social world, and contend that this implies infusing the curriculum and teacher education with cosmopolitan sensibilities, frequently, through critical theory and critical pedagogy.",

            "abstractNote": "Contradictions are the driving forces for development and learning in many co-operative work processes. Most applications for CSCW seem, however, to be based on an understanding of inter-human interaction in co-operative work as a rather linear and harmonious process. Consequently, most of the systems do not support the ''contradictory processes'' which are crucial for development and progress. These processes involve qualities often ascribed to women. Based on selected theory from both critical pedagogy and feminist research, this paper establishes a framework for an understanding of how gender may be considered crucial to the design of computer systems supporting co-operative work.",

            "abstractNote": "Over the last decade, there has been an increased focus on developing critical thinking (CT) skills within the engineering curriculum. Typically, the practice of CT occurs fragmentarily in a singular, limited context, within one of several ABET learning outcomes. Drawing on critical theory, theories of moral development, and pedagogies of liberation, we examine and challenge conceptions of CT presently used in engineering education. We develop a reflexive view of CT, leading to CT not only within but also about engineering. In this framework, CT can no longer be reduced to the application of skills, but is reconceived as creative action resulting from reflective engagement with epistemic assumptions. We implemented this integrative approach to CT across multiple course contexts and educational outcomes in engineering, finding that thinking critically about engineering can challenge power/knowledge relationships, critique engineering epistemologies, engage in reflective and reflexive practice, and work relationally for social justice.",

            "abstractNote": "This paper discusses the challenges of teaching architectural design theory in a world transformed by the digital revolution. Design is changing in dramatic ways and architecture is changing with it but a well-defined body of knowledge that can serve as a foundation for digital architectural design has - as yet - not been established. Relevant concepts, methods and precedents originate in many fields that are typically well beyond the scope of reading suggested to (or encountered by) students of architecture. This material is highly dynamic, often contradictory and, typically, of varying quality. Presenting this developing body of knowledge to students is a difficult challenge. A suitable pedagogical approach ought to reflect the heterogeneous and volatile nature of the contemporary design discourse enabling critical analysis of existing design practices, evidenced defence of one's own creative work and successful communication with many heterogeneous stakeholders.",
