The ability to exercise choice incorporates three inter-related dimensions: resources (defined broadly to include not only access, but also future claims, to both material and human and social resources); agency (including processes of decision making, as well as less measurable manifestations of agency such as negotiation, deception and manipulation); and achievements (well-being outcomes). A number of studies of women's empowerment are analysed to make some important methodological points about the measurement of empowerment. The paper argues that these three dimensions of choice are indivisible in determining the meaning of an indicator and hence its validity as a measure of empowerment. The notion of choice is further qualified by referring to the conditions of choice, its content and consequences. A través de la metodología secundaria de revisión sistematizada de la literatura técnica y científica se identifican las variables sociales que se encuentran asociadas de manera más frecuente a la informalidad laboral, que son: género, edad, pertenencia al mundo rural y condición étnico-racial. Cada una de estas variables por si misma representa un indicador de vulnerabilidad laboral y combinadas entre sí potencian su efecto precarizador, aplicándose el principio de discriminación interseccional edad-ruralidad-etnia. Así también, se establece que las estrategias para hacer frente a la informalidad laboral más recurrentes son la capacitación y el incentivo al emprendimiento. Se concluye que las respuestas desde las políticas públicas se insertan dentro de políticas laborales neoliberales que poco cambian el panorama. Se propone avanzar en medidas específicas diferenciadas por sector productivo, aplicando la perspectiva de género y el enfoque de la interseccionalidad para contener la informalidad y desprecarizarla. Se propone superar el binomio formalidad e informalidad y cambiarlo a precario y no precario.\nThe article presents a comprehensive, interconnected, dynamic and multidimensional analysis of the particularities and sub-dimensions of the permanence of labor informality in the region, describing the effects it generates and establishing the connection between it and inequality. Through the secondary methodology of systematic review of the technical and scientific literature, the social variables that are most frequently associated with labor informality are identified, which are: gender, age, belonging to the rural world and ethnic-racial condition. Each of these variables by itself represents an indicator of labor vulnerability and combined with each other enhances its precarious effect, applying the principle of intersectional age-rurality-ethnicity discrimination. Likewise, it is established that the most recurring strategies to deal with labor informality are training and encouraging entrepreneurship. It is concluded that the responses from public policies are inserted within neoliberal labor policies that do little to change the outlook. It is proposed to advance in specific measures differentiated by productive sector, applying the gender perspective and the intersectionality approach to contain informality and make it less precarious. It is proposed to overcome the formality and informality binomial and change it to precarious and non-precarious.\nO artigo apresenta uma análise abrangente, interconectada, dinâmica e multidimensional das particularidades e subdimensões da permanência da informalidade laboral na região, descrevendo os efeitos que ela gera e estabelecendo a conexão entre ela e a desigualdade. Por meio da metodologia secundária de revisão sistematizada da literatura técnica e científica, são identificadas as variáveis sociais mais frequentemente associadas à informalidade laboral: gênero, idade, pertencimento ao mundo rural e condição étnico-racial. By examining ten life stories of women who work in different universities, we affirm that academia is a hostile space for the women who inhabit it, as it reproduces dualist, colonial, hetero-patriarchal and capitalist logics within it; these particularly affect the experiences of women and non-heteronormative bodies. Care is found to be a central and conflictive notion in this experience of academia, as it operates both as a form of oppression, by nullifying women’s participation and visibility, and as a form of resistance, negotiation and political power to transform the university. WORK • UNIVERSITY • GENDER RELATIONS • WOMEN MUJERES Y CUIDADO: DISPUTAS Y NEGOCIACIONES EN EL ESPACIO ACADÉMICO Resumen El presente artículo ofrece insumos, tanto empíricos como teóricos, que evidencian cómo opera el vínculo entre el espacio y el género en la academia de ciencias sociales y humanidades de Bogotá, Colombia. A través de 10 historias de vida de mujeres que trabajan en distintas universidades, afirmamos que la academia es un espacio hostil para las mujeres que la habitan, en tanto que se reproducen en su interior lógicas dualistas, coloniales, heteropatriarcales y capitalistas, que afectan de manera particular las experiencias de mujeres y cuerpos no heteronormativos. El informe refleja la existencia de segregación vertical y horizontal en las empresas de la región y muestra cuáles son los determinantes de la equidad de género intrafirma. La existencia de mujeres en posiciones altas de decisión potencia a las mujeres en la empresa a crecer profesionalmente y acceder a mejores posiciones. También se comprobó que las capacitaciones a la fuerza laboral, el trabajo con tecnologías avanzadas y la cultura empresarial favorece también a la mujer como trabajadora.
