\nIn her article Tolomeo argues that the violent aspects of Flannery O’Connor’s stories have a strong impact on readers, regardless of the way they interpret the violence. Tolomeo uses claims previously made by critics that stated the violence in O’Connor’s stories demonstrates that O’Connor was a fundamentalist preacher who belonged to the devil’s party to assist her argument. She discusses the shift in the point of the stories that the violent acts occur in O’Connor’s last three works, “Revelation”, “Parker’s Back”, and “Judgement Day”.

\nThe author argues against the common idea that the grandmother in \"A Good Man is Hard to Find\" is an agent of grace. She serves as a contradiction to O'Connor's original attempt, as opposed to any representation of grace. Kinney introduces her argument by implying a contradiction between how O’Connor tells readers and critics how her stories such as “A Good Man is Hard to Find” should be read, and how the story is read beyond the meaning of O’Connor’s claims.

\nIn this article Loxley F. Nichols explore the mystery and ambiguity of O’Connor’s personal life – early in the article the scholar comments on O’Connor’s letters, “She remains nonconfessional (or “shut-mouth,” as she would say), juxtaposing light hearted banter and anecdotal humor with varying levels of philosophical and theological discourse”(Nichols 16). Through examining O’Connor’s life, her relationships with others, her interactions with her mother, and the way she spoke of her mother to other people, Nichols concludes that she O’Connor portrayed her life as anecdotal and silly because it was a safe mask to hide behind: “In her letters we can see Flannery O’Connor’s distinctive and defining ability…to ‘make strange’ her life, to distance it so that out of dissonance comes harmony; out of conflict comes peace; out of mystery comes understanding ; out of frustration comes acceptance” (Nichols 28-29).
