Information management concerns the control over how information is created, acquired, organized,
stored, distributed, and used as a means of promoting, efficient and effective information access, processing,
and use by people and organizations. Various perspectives of information management exist. In
this paper, three are presented: the organizational, library and personal perspectives. Each deals with
the management of some or all of the processes involved in the information lifecycle. Each concerns
itself with the management of different types of information resources. The purpose of this paper is to
clearly describe what, “information management” is and to clarify how information management differs
in regards to closely related terms.

Though literature on information and knowledge management is vast, there is much confusion concerning the meaning of these terms. According to the literature review, technology-oriented information management includes data management, information technology management and strategic information technology management. The main emphasis of these approaches is the effective and efficient use of information technology. In contrast, content-oriented approaches focus on information and its use.
They can be distinguished in records management, provision of external information, human-centered information management, and information resources management. The reading of the literature on knowledge management reveals that this term is either used synonymously for information management or for the management of work practices with the goal of improving the generation of new knowledge and the sharing of existing knowledge. This article identifies various aspects that are embraced by the terms information and knowledge management. Thus, it should contribute to more terminological clarity and finally improve communication both in science and in professional practice.

Knowledge management (KM) is an emerging field of specialization in a number of professions, including Information Science (IS). The different professions are contributing to and influencing the developments in KM in their own ways. However, it is argued here that IS is not contributing to the advancement of KM as much as it should for a number of apparent reasons. The main purpose of the paper is to call on the members of the IS profession to take a more proactive and visible role in advancing KM by showing that KM is a natural and long-awaited development in IS and that a number of circumstances have made KM to be an area of emphasis in IS whose time has come. The paper also aims at contributing towards achieving a consensus among IS professionals on conceptualization, goals, and scope of KM in IS. The recommendations of the paper focus on how the profession could proactively be involved in advancing KM.

Debates about the uptake of new digital technologies reinforce old conclusions about the role and purpose of the library. The authors argue that technological developments in the fulfilment of library services should be critically assessed in terms of how they satisfy the library’s purposes or use of its core competencies. The ubiquity of access and the emergence of unified communications pose huge challenges to traditional means and formats of content acquisition and delivery, however, not to its fundamental role in society. While customer expectations of libraries are somewhat influenced and shaped by their experience of content access on the Internet which some scholars conclude as having reached a strategic inflection point, the authors opine that the National Library Board’s early exposure to user-centred services has reduced the impact of strategic shifts in the environment.\nThe paper nevertheless calls for a redefinition of roles for librarians. This article analyzes the collaboration trends, authorship and keywords of all research articles published
in the Journal of American Society for Information Science and Technology (JASIST). Comparing the articles between two 10-year periods, namely, 1988–1997 and 1998–2007, the three-fold objectives are to analyze the shifts in (a) authors’ collaboration trends (b) top authors, their affiliations as well as the pattern of coauthorship among them, and (c) top keywords and the subdisciplines from which they emerge. The findings reveal a distinct tendency towards collaboration among authors, with external collaborations becoming more prevalent.
Top authors have grown in diversity from those being affiliated predominantly with library/information-related departments to include those from information systems management, information technology,businesss,and the humanities. Amid heterogeneous clusters of collaboration among top authors, strongly connected crossdisciplinary coauthor pairs have become more prevalent.
Correspondingly, the distribution of top keywords’occurrences that leans heavily on core information science has shifted towards other subdisciplines such as information technology and sociobehavioral science.

This research sought to investigate how school students build on their existing knowledge of a curriculum topic and transform found information into personal knowledge, and how their knowledge of this topic changes.
