            "note": "Introduction - Comb makers could certainly make objects other than combs from antler and bone (spoons, game pieces, needles, handles), but the debris from Ribe, Birka (K. Danielsson 1973, p.53) and elsewhere proves that combs were the main things they made. The finished combs are high class handiwork, despite the difficulty of the material, and the fact that the same quality of craftsmanship is found universally strongly suggests that they were made by specialists rather than ordinary home craftsmen...p.47\nIf the comb maker is recognised as a specialized craftsman who did not, to any significant extent, wrok on other kinds of antler objects and who did not work all the year round in any one place, the hypothesis that he was itinerant seems much stronger than the alternative, that he was locally based...p.47\nWinter was possibly the best time of year to hold annual markets.
