There is no ecological concept suggesting that this biodiversity and habitat impoverishment is restricted to this portion of the Neotropics, and our 50 years of occasional visits to other parts of the tropics suggest the same. We are losing most of the insect community that is still in the cloud forests due to the drying of the tops of tropical mountains, just as we are losing the huge expanses of insect communities that once occupied the fertile soils, weather, and water of the lowland tropics. Today we have unimaginable access to the world's biodiversity through the internet, roads, dwellings, education, bioliterate societies, DNA barcoding, genome sequencing, and human curiosity. The wild world gains from our understanding that it needs large and diverse terrain, relief from hunting trees and animals, site-specific restoration, profit-sharing with its societies, and tolerance of humans and our extended genomes. But if our terrestrial world remains constructed through constant war with the arthropod world, along with the plants, fungi and nematodes, human society will lose very big time. The house is burning. We do not need a thermometer. The key is illustrated with drawings based on SEM pictures. A generic catalogue with full synonymy of the European eucoiline genera is presented. The following new synonymies on the generic level are proposed: Trichoplasta Benoit, 1956 (Armigerina Belizin, 1968 syn.n.), Eucoila Westwood, 1833 (Lenobria Belizin, 1968 syn.n.), Kleidotoma Westwood, 1833 (Nesokleidotoma Beardsley, 1990 syn.n., Octameris Belizin, 1973 syn.n., Polbourdouxia Dessart, 1977 syn.n., Pentakleidota Weld, 1951 syn.n.). One species level synonymy is proposed: Eucoila floralis Dahlbom, 1846 (Lenobria bidentata Belizin, 1968 syn.n.) A tribal classification of the subfamily is utilised, recognizing the following tribes: Diglyphosemini Belizin, 1961 stat.n., Kleidotomini Hellén, 1960 stat.n. Die Ceraphronoidea, eine artenreiche, aber bisher wenig erforschte Überfamilie parasitoider Wespen, verdeutlicht die Herausforderungen von „dark taxa“in der Biodiversitätsforschung. In diesem Manuskript präsentieren wir den ersten zugänglichen Bestimmungsschlüssel für die 16 paläarktischen Gattungen der Ceraphronoidea, von denen sechs zu den Ceraphronidae und zehn zu den Megaspilidae gehören. Unser Ansatz zielt darauf ab, die klassischen taxonomischen Methoden für ein vielfältiges und größtenteils unzugängliches Taxon voranzubringen. Dies ist besonders relevant, da molekulare und technologische Entwicklungen wie DNA-Barcoding und Computer Vision für die außerberufliche Taxonomie oder einkommensschwächere Regionen der Welt, in denen viele der Biodiversitätshotspots liegen, zu kostspielig sein können, und traditionelle Bestimmungsschlüssel weiterhin unverzichtbare Werkzeuge bleiben.
