The demise of your revered mother Akhtar Durdana Owaisi was indeed shocking. 
I had known Akhtar Aapa since my Himayatnagar days where I was a frequent
visitor to visit my childhood friend Azhar Uddin Owaisi who predeceased her.
She was a popular teacher at Nandi private school in Himayatnagar where she
taught generations of girls. Nandi school was one of the best schools in town
under Ms. Nandi and ably assisted by Mrs. Wahab who later became head of the
institution. She was the daughter of Janab Abdul Wahid Owaisi former president
of MIM , sister of Salar Salahuddin Owaisi and Phupi of Owaisi brothers of Hyderabad.
All very distinguished Hyderabadis.
 
My heartfelt condolences to her loved ones including Begum Laiq Sharfuddin Khan of Chicago
her younger sister and a social activist and Ahmed Owaisi her youngest brother who resides
in KSA.  May her good soul rest in peace.
 
Azhar's old friends Riazuddin, Yusuf Nawaz, Habeeb Sayeed, Dr. Altaf ul Rehman, Fasahat Ullah,
Syed Fuzail, M.Yacoob, Syed Khader, Dr. Hashim Masih,Mazhar Ali Khan  join others in expressing

The Hyderabad Association of the Washington Metropolitan Area offers its profound condolences to HAWMA Board Members Dilnaz and Dr. Syed Husain and their families on the passing of their mother/mother-in-law, Mohtarama Akhtar Durdana Owaisi early this week. Her mortal remains were put to rest in the al-Firdaus cemetery in Ferederick, Maryland on Wednesday, October 28. The fatehah khwaanii and issal-e sawaab are going to be held between 'Asr and Maghrib prayers today (October 30) at the Muslim Community Center at New Hampshire Avenue in Silver Spring, Maryland. May God Almighty bestow His merciful blessings on the deceased's soul and offer her the proximity of His loving and compassionate \"qurb.\" May He grant her a choicest place in the sublime precincts of Jannat al-Firdaus. And may He give Dilnaz and Syed the \"istiqaamah\" and \"sabr\" to bear this irreparable loss with dignity and forebearance.

Yesterday after shopping in our local supermarket, I was in the queue at the Check Out, and heard when the young cashier suggested to the much older lady that she should bring her own grocery bags, because plastic bags are not good for the environment.

The woman apologised to the young girl & then sighed, \"We didn't have this 'green thing' back in my earlier days.\"

The young clerk responded, \"That's our problem today. You folk didn't do enough to save our environment for future generations.\"

The older lady said \"Ahh yes you're right -- our generation didn't have the \"green thing\" in its day.\"

She sighed then continued:

Back then, we returned milk bottles, lemonade bottles & beer bottles to the shops. The shops then sent them back to the plant to be washed, sterilized & refilled, so those same bottles were used over & over, thus REALLY were recycled. But we didn't have the \"green thing\" back in our day.

Grocery stores put our groceries into brown paper bags that we reused for numerous things. Most memorable was the use of brown paper bags as book covers for our school books. This was to ensure that public property (the books provided for our use by the school) were not defaced by our scribblings. Then we were able to personalise our books on their brown paper bag/covers. But, too bad we didn't do the \"green thing\" back then.
I remember how we walked up stairs because we didn't have an escalator in every store or office building; walked to the grocery store & didn't climb into a 300-horsepower machine every time we had to go 200 yards.

. . . But she was right. We didn't have the \"green thing\" in our day.
Back then we washed the baby's nappies because we didn't have the throw away kind. We dried clothes on a line, not in an energy-gobbling machine burning up 220 volts. Wind & solar power really did dry our clothes back in our days. Kids got hand-me-down clothes from their brothers or sisters, not always brand-new clothing. . . . But that young lady is right; we didn't have the \"green thing\" back in our day.

Back then we had one radio, in the house -- not a TV in every room. And if anyone did own a TV, it had a small screen the size of a handkerchief (remember them?), not a screen the size of a football pitch. When cooking we blended & stirred by hand coz we didn't have electric machines to do everything for us. When we packaged a fragile item to send by post, we used layers of old newspapers to cushion it, not Styrofoam or plastic bubble wrap. Back then, we didn't fire up an engine and burn gasoline just to cut the lawn. We used a push mower that ran on human power. We exercised by working so we didn't need to go to a health club to run on treadmills that operate on electricity.... But she's right; we didn't have the \"green thing\" back then.

We drank from a tap or fountain when we were thirsty instead of using a cup or a plastic bottle every time we had a drink of water. We refilled writing pens with ink instead of buying a new pen, & we replaced the razor blade in a razor instead of throwing away the whole razor just because the blade got dull. But we didn't have the \"green thing\" back then. Back then, people took the bus & kids rode bikes to school or walked instead of turning their mothers into a 24-hour taxi service in the family's expensive car or van, which cost what a whole house did before the \"green thing\"..

Oh and we had one electrical outlet in a room, not an entire bank of sockets to power a dozen appliances. And we didn't need a computerized gadget to receive a signal beamed from satellites 23,000 miles out in space in order to find the nearest leisure park.

. . . . But it so sad this current generation laments how wasteful we old folks were just because we didn't have the \"green thing\" back then? . . . I think you should forward this on to another selfish old person who needs a lesson in conservation from some smart ass young person. .. ...
We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to piss us off... Especially from a tattooed, multiple pierced smart ass who can't make change without the cash register telling them how much.

Taking this as the first sentence I wrote this afsana, changing the generic personality of chacha to a specific person, the Murhsid.

It was a nice fall afternoon ,I decided  to go to the gym  for swimming as I do at least three times a week,  as I was checking in I saw a Indian looking man .There are about three thousand members of this gym ,to best of my knowledge I am the only Indian .The receptionist addressed him as Mohammad ,I said hi to him and said that is my name too .
\n
I asked him where he lives ,he said at Hyderabad India but visits this area six or seven times a year, his wife is a doctor in Beloit Wisconsin ,few miles from my house. I thought he must be some kind of  a business man ,but he told me he is a professional athlete in India and plays Cricket for Hyderabad team ,his home is at Secunderabad ,his name is Mohammad Ibrahim Khaleel.

Later I checked the internet ,there is lot of information about him.

Having read the eulogy by Arif Quadri, it is not easy to write more profoundly about Syed Omer Farooq than Arif has already written. He is a prolific writer.
\n
I would like to try, however feebly, to enliven memories of a very dear friend who over the years became truly a very close and sincere friend. Alas, he is no longer with us.
\n
Besides being family friends we went to the same school, with his eldest brother Syed Osman as my classfellow.
\n
Omer Farooq and I met again in London, a few years later. We were neighbours along with many other families from good old Hyderabad, having pot-lucks, cricket matches, picnics, children's saal-girahs, eid-milans etc. together. This group must have consisted of fifty of us or perhaps more, with very closely established interactions, making those years together as some of the pleasantest times one could imagine.
\n
Few years later, I was living in Dubai when he took up an assignment in Doha, Qatar. It was a pleasure visting him and his wife Mubeen on weekends. He had an infectious smile and possessed an inimitable art of coming up with humorous anecdotes and timely quips. Never a dull moment with this man.
\n
A few years after I returned to California from Dubai, Omer Farooq moved here, to live in the San Francisco Bay area, while I lived in Los Angeles. However, the distance of five hundred plus miles was no obstacle as we would be on the phone regularly, with Omer Farooq and his wife Mubeen saying, \"kab aarahay haeN, bahot din hogaey\", with my response, \"I just came back from your place\"! Such was the abundance of 'khuloos-o-mohabbat' that was extended to me.
\n
Omer Farooq was blessed with innumerable qualities that one does not often find together in one person.
\n
An honest, God-fearing, ('paaband-e-saum-o-salaat'), sincere and genuinely kind
\n
person who believed in 'sakhawat', cared about people and would do anything to help out those experiencing difficulties, in his own quiet way, living up to the saying, \"the left hand must not know what the right hand does, by way of charity\". Obiously, it was  the significance of his 'Name', I believe, which had a lasting influence on his 'being' throughout his life. 
\n
He loved to host get-togethers with his wife Mubeen always ready to cook exquiste meals and making sure everyone ate well and enjoyed.They were a perfect match, cheerful and pleasantly hospitable. 
\n
Omer Farooq lived a good, simple life, being a devoted husband, a loving father and a best friend one could ever have. No one could just be an acquaintance with with Omer Farooq without becoming a friend, he would not let that happen.
\n
May Allah bless him with Maghfirah and a noble 'maqaam' in jannah, which I believe he has earned by virtue of his devotion to Allah, to his family and to his friends. Aameen.
\n
I humbly offer my heartfelt condolences to his grieving family: Mubeen, Farina, Sabina, Fahd, the sons-in-law, the grandchildren, his brothers, their families, his sister, her family and many more extended family members and friends. 
\n
May they be blessed with sabr-e-jameel by the One and Only 'Rahmat-Ul-Lil-Aalameen'.
\n
Personally, it is a loss of unfathomable proportions.

Omar Farooq and I were classmates at St.Georges from Middle school onwards (1950-55) as well as at Nizam College only to take our different paths when I went to Bangalore to complete my Medical degree.
\n
In school we both competed to be amongst the top eight places and in sports playing together in our Middle and High School cricket teams.He excelled in Hockey and was a very good swimmer We had 3 Farooq's in our class and each time we called out the name all three would turn around .So to differentiate them we named one Gora(Omar Farooq)the others Kaala and Kanda
\n
But then fate joined us together again in England in 1968 when he married my Choti Saali.After some years at Rolls Royce in the UK he was assigned to work in Egypt and then in Qatar.He returned to England before migrating to the States in 1992 (Freemont) after his eldest daughters marriage and lived with his son who completed his graduation and post Graduation there along with his three grand children.

He was a happy go lucky,very easy going,honest,down to earth and God fearing type of person who treasured his friendships and made every effort to keep in touch.He will be sorely missed not only by the family members but all his friends as well.May God rest his soul in Peace and grant him a place  in Paradise. Syed Omar Farooq former graduate of St. George's Grammar High in Hyderabad , Nizam Colllege , & Osmania college of engineering  passed away peacefully in Kaiser hospital , Modesto at 10.13 P.M
ON Friday. Farooq has been ill for some time. He held several
assignments as an engineer in Rolls Royce company in England before migrating to California USA. He was settled in Modesto, CA. at the time of his demise. Farooq was the great grandson of Abdul Razzack the pharmacist to the Nizams. He is survived by his wife Mubeen , a son and two daughters. He is also survived by Dr. Osman of KSA, Zaheer Khader
of Chicago another brother and a sister.
 
May his good soul rest in peace.
