Does this institution have an influence on the use of law in contemporary workplace conflicts? At the crossroads of the sociology of work, law, public action, professions and industrial relations, this dissertation analyses the different forms of the work of the agents of the Labor inspectorate in metropolitan France, between 2017 and 2020. Combining an interactionist and a dispositional approach, it is based on the observation of the work of information and control officers, who face a triple audience consisting of managers, staff representatives and employees. This thesis also involves interviews with all of these actors, and with representatives of employer and trade-union organizations at the local level. This dissertation renews the research on the Labor Inspectorate by capturing, based on the study a wide diversity of offenses and types of organizations, the resources and constraints that condition the professional activity of its agents, and the way in which these different types of public use and perceive this institution. Using the theoretical framework of “street-level bureaucracy”, it demonstrates the role of labor inspectors in the diffusion of norms for the juridicization of industrial relations and the management of conflicts at work. It analyzes the unequal resources available to the users who would want to benefit from the action of this pivotal actor in industrial relations, and the relationships to justice and labor law that underpin their practices. On the one hand, it shows how differentiated processes of compliance with labor law in French companies are, depending on the resources available to inspection officers, the employees and the company management, the size of the organizations and the types of offenses. However, research in the fields of both expatriation and diplomacy emphasizes that transnational careers have been historically monopolized by men, that most \"trailing spouses\" are still women, and that men's transnational careers still take precedence in dualcareer couples. Our study uses the \"gender turn\" in diplomatic studies to better understand how gender disparities continue to structure diplomatic careers, even as more women take on primary roles in expatriation. We focus on international assignment practices that we redefine as \"gendered diplomatic practices\". We present an original random sample of 300 male and 300 female French diplomats employed in 2015. We show that men cover 1.5 times more distance than women throughout their careers, and that they travel 1.3 times further for each international assignment. We also show that men spend 14 years abroad on average, 3 years more than women. In addition, women spend 1 year longer in each assignment to avoid frequent relocation. These gendered disparities hold for diplomats who access managerial positions. The reforms led to a change in the organization of discussions between employee representatives and management. This article explores the extent of this change in the operation of employee representation bodies, and shows how, in large companies, union representatives and employee relations managers have appropriated the new legal framework to configure and define the operation of CSE committees. We observe that negotiators seized the opportunity to configure CSE committees, either to maintain existing arrangements and routines despite the change in the legal framework, or to innovate and invent new ways of operating. However, beyond the differences observed between companies, there is a common turn in managerial initiatives: the streamlining of procedures and discussions within the CSE. This raises a series of issues and tensions that are particularly apparent in the case of the health, safety and working conditions committee (CSSCT). Quel rôle ont donc joué ces militant·es dans la politisation de la santé au travail ? Cet article s’attaque à cette question en étudiant l’activité des acteurs et actrices des directions confédérales de la CFDT et de la CGT chargé·es du dossier de la santé au travail durant les années 1980-1990. À rebours de certains discours, militant·es et scientifiques, présentant cette période comme celle de la crise du syndicalisme et de son repli sur la défense de l’emploi, l’article montre la persistance d’un intérêt pour la santé professionnelle, en même temps que son maintien au second rang des préoccupations militantes. Nous montrons que les pratiques en matière de santé au travail des directions syndicales sont façonnées à la fois par les priorités politiques de ces directions et par les propriétés sociales des conseiller·ères qui assurent la gestion de ce dossier. Les pratiques varient selon les périodes et les militant·es qui s’en saisissent.
