Concentration involves an active effort to exclude from the consciousness all thoughts and emotions not relevant to the immediate task at hand. Concentration requires self-discipline, motivation, and basic common sense. There are several reasons for improving one's ability to concentrate: 1. completing tasks efficiently and effectively, 2. developing better perception, 3. facilitating self-development, and 4. shortening reaction time. Some internal and external barriers to concentration include lack of motivation, daydreaming and fantasizing, distracting environmental conditions, task ambiguity and overload, and fatigue and hunger.
