"note": "<p>This study seeks to estimate the impact of climate change on a sector deemed to be vulnerable, namely the agricultural sector in Jamaica. There are two main objectives: (1) collect relevant data on the agricultural sector in Jamaica to estimate the costs of identified and anticipated impacts with and without impacts associated with climate change; (2) present an analysis of climate change related impacts on agriculture over the next 90 years based on various carbon emission trajectories under a business as usual (BAU) scenario with adaptation measures.</p>\n<p>Both of these goals are, essentially, incomplete in this report. The gatherings in this document are simply an initial attempt to collect data and analyze climate change impacts on agriculture in Jamaica. Though the full research is still underway, this could still be a useful reference document for those persons learning more about the economy of agriculture in Jamaica, and adaptation strategies for the struggles to come.</p>",

"abstractNote": "Island communities stand to be among the first and most adversely affected by the impacts of global climate change. Rising sea levels, changing precipitation and storm patterns, and increasing air and sea-surface temperatures stress already limited island resources while climate change policies circumscribe local decision making. Anthropologists make important contributions to understanding island-based knowledge, global causes of vulnerability, local perceptions of risk, and islander agency channeled into adaptive capacity and resilience. A conceptual framework that recognizes both the complexity of the causes of island vulnerability and the constraints and opportunities available to islanders offers an analytical approach to understanding islander responses to climate change, including migration. The framework is used to show that island communities are not merely isolated, small, and impoverished but that they are often deeply globally connected in ways that reject such simple descriptions and will be essential to just and equitable climate solutions.",

"extra": "The CARIBSAVE Climate Change Risk Atlas Phase I examines climate change risks, vulnerabilities and adaptive capacities. The study develops pragmatic response strategies to reduce vulnerability and enhance resilience in 15 countries across the Caribbean (including Jamaica).\n\nThe study gains information and formulations by looking at detailed climate modeling projections for each country under different scenarios. These projections are at both the global and regional scales.\n\nThis document provides valuable resilience strategies in a wide range of focus areas. (These include Community Livelihoods, Gender, Poverty and Development; Agriculture and Food Security; Energy: Water Quality and Availability; Sea Level Rise and Storm Surge Impacts on Coastal Infrastructure and Settlements; Comprehensive Disaster Management; Human Health; and Marine and Terrestrial Biodiversity and Fisheries.) These topics are viewed through the lens of tourism, the largest economic driver of the Caribbean.\n\nThis document would be extremely useful for those who wish to compare climate change effects on different islands throughout the Caribbean. It is also helpful for gaining insight on resilience strategies for a wide variety of topics based on location.",
