"abstractNote": "Purpose\n- This paper aims to describe a new application of Zotero, a citation management system, for embedded librarianship and assessment. It explores student reception of this approach and maps Zotero's capacities to represent citations to learning outcomes and information literacy frames that instruction librarians assess.\nDesign/methodology/approach\n- The librarian worked with a course using Zotero group libraries for collaborative work, used Zotero to communicate with students and assess their information literacy skills and surveyed the students to determine their perception of librarian participation via Zotero.\nFindings\n- Using Zotero's features made it possible to formatively and summatively assess student work quickly, and students were receptive to librarian participation via Zotero.\nPractical implications\n- This suggests that librarians facing difficulty embedding in online courses or those seeking to assess student work may wish to explore Zotero as a sustainable solution to both challenges.\nOriginality/value\n- This paper posits a solution to common challenges for online embedded librarianship and suggests a new technique for assessing student information literacy in a context that supports information literacy.",

"abstractNote": "Since Windschitl first outlined a research agenda for the World Wide Web and classroom research, significant shifts have occurred in the nature of the Web and the conceptualization of classrooms. Such shifts have affected constructs of learning and instruction, and paths for future research. This article discusses the characteristics of Web 2.0 that differentiate it from the Web of the 1990s, describes the contextual conditions in which students use the Web today, and examines how Web 2.0's unique capabilities and youth's proclivities in using it influence learning and teaching. Two important themes, learner participation and creativity and online identity formation, emerged from this analysis and support a new wave of research questions. A stronger research focus on students' everyday use of Web 2.0 technologies and their learning with Web 2.0 both in and outside of classrooms is needed. Finally, insights on how educational scholarship might be transformed with Web 2.0 in light of these themes are discussed.",

"abstractNote": "Purpose - This paper aims to highlight the productivity and collaborative features of Mendeley, a reference management tool, as well as recommendations on how Mendeley can be incorporated into an information literacy program. Design/methodology/approach - Results from a literature review and feedback from students and faculty were used to provide background for this paper. Mendeley's features and potential benefits to librarians and researchers are discussed. Findings - Feedback from students and faculty who use Mendeley are very positive owing to its productivity and social networking and collaboration features. The literature highlights Mendeley's usefulness in the context of citation management software. Practical implications - The paper provides useful tips and best practices for integrating Mendeley into information literacy sessions and workshops for students and faculty. The paper also discusses how teaching Mendeley can facilitate scholarly communication between researchers and broaden the role of librarians on campus. Originality/value - The paper shows that Mendeley enables higher level information literacy by helping users focus on locating and organizing information and spend less time on citation details. Mendeley's social networking features are compatible with emerging work practices, facilitating collaboration among researchers through group's functions and open sharing of information through groups and publication lists.",

"abstractNote": "Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to investigate postgraduate students' research behavior and requirements to come up with essential components to support research collaboration in a personal digital library (PDL). Design/methodology/approach - This study was conducted using a questionnaire survey method along with a few follow up interviews. A structured questionnaire was circulated among postgraduate students of the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology (CSIT) of the University of Malaya (UM). A total of 100 participants answered the questionnaire, and 15 students participated in the follow up interview. The data collected were analyzed using SPSS statistical software. Findings - This research presents the benefit of collaboration in research. In addition, by reviewing collaborative support tools, it was inferred that the ability to share data and resources is the most important step in developing tools to support collaboration. Moreover, the important role of a virtual research environment (VRE) and social network to support research collaboration was examined. Furthermore, a closed-ended questionnaire survey together with a follow up open-ended survey was deployed among postgraduate students of CSIT of UM, to elicit students' collaboration requirements in research. Originality/value - Few attempts have been made to study about collaboration services within PDL systems and their impact on students' research. This paper proposes a prototype model of a PDL and highlights the importance of sharing e-resources as the prominent research collaboration activity among postgraduate students.",

Part of the response to this ever-increasing volume of resources includes formal instruction in the use of reference manager software while engaging students with the primary literature.
