Two features have been highlighted as particularly noteworthy: (1) Their refusal to allow institutional left actors to participate in or represent the movement, framed as a movement of ‘ordinary citizens’ and (2) their insistence on the use of deliberative democratic practices in large public assemblies as a central organizing principle. As with many emergent cycles of protest, many scholars, observers and participants attribute the mobilizations with spontaneity and ‘newness’. I argue that the ability of the 15-M/Indignados to sustain mobilization based on deliberative democratic practices is not spontaneous, but the result of the evolution of an autonomous collective identity predicated on deliberative movement culture in Spain since the early 1980s. The #spanishrevolution that started on 15 May 2011 shows this new-style communication in action. Amidst regional election campaigning, thousands of people, mainly young, took to the streets and occupied Spain’s main squares, becoming known as the Outraged (los Indignados) or 15M Movement. This article evaluates how the Outraged involved with the #acampadabcn, the camp in Barcelona’s central square, used online–offline tools to get information about the Movement. This research combines participant observation, surveys, in-depth interviews, and web analytics. The results show that social media were vital for getting information during 15M. It is specially remarkable among contexts where tools like Twitter or Facebook unite parts of the population against challenges like the current western crisis. \nDespite the first evidences of the impact of the social networks according to this paradigm can be found in countries like Egypt or Tunisia –those conforming the so-called ‘Arab Spring’- the 15M case is the first where we can guess some kind of relation between persuasive communication (banners) and the instrumental use of the social networks according to a social purpose.\nComing from the Theory of Chaos paradigm, and bearing in mind the figures of Attractors and Entropy as asimilations of communicative features among this phenomenon –the 15M movement- this work tracks the communicative events from the banner to the tweet.\nThrough a corpus made by 620 slogans taken from Puerta del Sol square in Madrid and Plaza del Ayuntamiento in Valencia, this work draws the linguistic anatomy of the Indignant Movemen. This is done by tracing an outline by levels: phonetics, syntax, tenses, semantics, lexicon and references. Furthermore, there is an exclusive chapter about the parasitism or the use of preexisting slogans to reduce the cognitive effort.\nOnce drawn the mentioned outlined, the slogans are traced all over the net, using Twitter as the spreading field. This new kind of communication has an enormous impact on opinions, cultural trends, information spreading and even in the commercial success of new products. More importantly, social online networks have revealed as a fundamental organizing mechanism in recent country-wide social movements. In this paper, we provide a quantitative analysis of the structural and dynamical patterns emerging from the activity of an online social network around the ongoing May 15th (15M) movement in Spain. Our network is made up by users that exchanged tweets in a time period of one month, which includes the birth and stabilization of the 15M movement. We characterize in depth the growth of such dynamical network and find that it is scale-free with communities at the mesoscale. We also find that its dynamics exhibits typical features of critical systems such as robustness and power-law distributions for several quantities. Remarkably, we report that the patterns characterizing the spreading dynamics are asymmetric, giving rise to a clear distinction between information sources and sinks.
