"abstractNote": "The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recognizes the extensive variety of actual and potential functions of mobile apps, the rapid pace of innovation in mobile apps, and the potential benefits and risks to public health represented by these apps. The FDA is issuing this guidance document to inform manufacturers, distributors, and other entities about how the FDA intends to apply its regulatory authorities to select software applications intended for use on mobile platforms (mobile applications or “mobile apps”). Given the rapid expansion and broad applicability of mobile apps, the FDA is issuing this guidance document to clarify the subset of mobile apps to which the FDA intends to apply its authority.\n\nMany mobile apps are not medical devices (meaning such mobile apps do not meet the definition of a device under section 201(h) of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act)), and FDA does not regulate them. Some mobile apps may meet the definition of a medical device but because they pose a lower risk to the public, FDA intends to exercise enforcement discretion over these devices (meaning it will not enforce requirements under the FD&C Act). The majority of mobile apps on the market at this time fit into these two categories.\n\nConsistent with the FDA's existing oversight approach that considers functionality rather than platform, the FDA intends to apply its regulatory oversight to only those mobile apps that are medical devices and whose functionality could pose a risk to a patient's safety if the mobile app were to not function as intended. This subset of mobile apps the FDA refers to as mobile medical apps.\n\nFDA is issuing this guidance to provide clarity and predictability for manufacturers of mobile medical apps. Should FDA determine at a later date that the policy in this guidance should be changed in light of new information, the agency would follow a public process, including the opportunity for public input, consistent with FDA's good guidance practices (GGP) regulation in 21 CFR 10.115.\n\nFDA's guidance documents, including this guidance, do not establish legally enforceable responsibilities. Instead, guidances describe the Agency's current thinking on a topic and should be viewed only as recommendations, unless specific regulatory or statutory requirements are cited. The use of the word *should* in Agency guidances means that something is suggested or recommended, but not required.",

"abstractNote": "Location-based Services, or LBS, is defined as a service that provides users with the proper position-based information, by locating a person or an object accurately with various mobile tools such as smart phones or other internet connected mobile devices. LBS is not only a cutting-edge technology which developed along with the rapid growth of wireless Internet, but also is developing consistently as a core technology of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and as an emerging technology of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), which is occupying main areas of the recent National Information Technology Infrastructure. LBS is an inclusive concept including all kinds of services that provide location-related information through specific platforms, such as wireless terminals, in addition to GIS, Global Positioning Systems (GPS), and Telematics.\n\nThe purpose of this paper is to introduce a design for a student-management system, customized by teachers and/or parents, by identifying, tracking, and analyzing students' movement patterns (frequency and duration). The Student Life Cycle Management System (SLCMS) generates pre- registered students' life patterns and movement courses, and then tracks their movement with the LBS of smart phone and WiFi. Finally, by doing comparative analysis between the data (which tracks the degree of deviation and cases of access to predetermined “harmful” business places by hour, place and frequency, and the data in the previously designed student life management system, the system helps to determine ways to manage students more effectively. These guidelines may offer valuable tools and feedback data to help parents, teachers, psychologists, guidance counselors, etc. to address and reduce negative and/or violent behaviors in students, both on and off-campus, and ultimately contribute to students’ well-being.\n\nKeywords: LBS, WiFi, Smartphone, Student Life Cycle Management System, School Violence, Psychological Counseling",

"abstractNote": "Twenty-Five percent of college students receiving disability services are diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Psycho-stimulants are often the treatment of choice because these medications have a quick and specific effect on attention and concentration. However, they have limited impact on skills related to executive functioning including organization, planning and project management. The potential for abuse is another problem associated with stimulant use in the college population. Beyond what is known about psycho- stimulants, little research has been done to develop effective, non-pharmacological interventions for young adults with ADHD. Behavior Therapy has been shown to be one promising adjunctive treatment to central nervous system medication. An emerging adjunctive treatment in health psychology is the use of smartphone applications to manage symptoms and/or increase compliance. At the beginning of 2012, the amount of smartphones in use equaled feature phones and the amount of applications available for download succeeds 500,000. Now more than ever, treatment intervention delivered via smartphone application is a possibility. While past research has focused on the treatment of ADHD through the use of psycho-stimulants and behavioral interventions, this research evaluated the treatment efficacy of a time/goal management smartphone application grounded in evidence-based behavioral therapy. A time/goal smartphone application was used to treat college-age students diagnosed with ADHD. Participants used the smartphone application, TimeManager, for three weeks. Results indicated no significant improvement on pre/post measures assessing symptoms, quality of life, and behaviors associated with academic success. However, results of exploratory analysis were more compelling, showing that time spent in general goal-directed activities (academic and non-academic) predicted engagement in specific behaviors associated with academic success. Supplemental analyses also revealed an unexpected negative correlation between free time and self-report of overall functioning.",

"abstractNote": "This dissertation, On the Other Side of Hyperactivity: an Anthropology of ADHD, provides a meta-historical and cultural perspective on the emergence and proliferation of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in the United States over the last three decades. Through in-depth multi-sited ethnography (15 months in the San Francisco Bay Area) with doctors, educators, parents, and children as well as detailed archival research into the disorder's antecedents, my research explores how ADHD operates as both a psychiatric category and social imaginary that links together in its operation the domains of education, biomedicine, and family life in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. More broadly, by examinig the relationship between consumption and time, my analysis pushes the study of ADHD into new territory showing how ADHD's symptoms--hyperactivity and impulsivity--operate both through the body and its exteroor milieus creating a new architecture of experience in contemporary American life.Toward this end, my analysis here develops a renewed concept of hyperactivity that differs from the term's everyday use. Hyperactivity comes from the Greek huper-, over, beyond, above and the Latin activus related to the noun actus, a driving or impulse. In both its broadest sense as a concept and its specific meanings as a medical category, hyperactivity as a condition marks a threshold. On the one hand, the challenge of this dissertation is to locate this threshold by attending both ethnographically and historically to the ways that hyperactivity has been marked as a significant problem in the world: for example, when and where does hyperactivity emerge as a target of psychiatric intervention? Why does its diagnosis and treatment remain controversial today? How do scientific and medical approaches to hyperactivity challenge commonsense ideas about personal responsibility and accountability? More importantly, the challenge is to think life on the other side of this threshold, on the other side of hyperactivity. This means thinking hyperactivity not simply as a medical category or oppressive label, but as an active and dynamic force. It also means thinking hyperactivity not only in the negative sense of the limits it sets on life--how do the categories, labels, modes of treatment and diagnosis of the condition constrain and confine, etc.--but also in the positive powers of creativity, novelty, and difference. Therefore the task, I argue, and what my dissertation attempts to do, is to show through sustained empirical attention and conceptual reflection the singular way hyperactivity articulates things like neurological deficit, rituals of self-stimulation, habits of consumption, and modes of identification and belonging that before had no direct connection, and thus to appreciate what is new and different about hyperactivity in the world today.",

"abstractNote": "Attention Deficit with Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is one of the most prevalent disorders within the child population today. Inattention problems can lead to greater difficulties in completing assignments, as well as problems with time management and prioritisation of tasks. This article presents an intelligent tele-therapy tool based on Serious Games for Health, aimed at the improvement of time management skills and the prioritisation of tasks. This tele-system is based on the use of decision trees within Django, a high-level Python Web framework. The technologies and techniques used were selected so as to boost user involvement and to enable the system to be easily customised. This article shows the preliminary results of the pilot-phase in an experiment performed to evaluate the use of adaptive tele-therapies within a group of typically developing children and adolescents aged between 12 and 19 years old without ADHD. To do so, we relied on the collection of parameters and the conduct of surveys for assessing time management skills, as well as measuring system usability and availability. The results of a time management survey highlighted that the users involved in the trial did not use any specific or effective time management techniques, scoring 1.98 and 2.30 out of 5 points in this area for ages under 15 and over 16 years old, respectively. The final calculations based on the usability questionnaire resulted in an average score of 78.75 out of 100. The creation of a customisable tool capable of working with different skills, in conjunction with the replication of the current study, may help to understand these users’ needs, as well as boosting time management skills among teenagers with and without ADHD.",

This is done without reference to a specific transport protocol so as to allow multiple methods of communication between systems. Subsequent documents will define profiles of this protocol that use specific, interoperable methods of communication between systems.\n\nThe iCalendar Transport-Independent Interoperability Protocol (iTIP) complements the iCalendar object specification by adding semantics for group scheduling methods commonly available in current calendaring systems. These scheduling methods permit two or more calendaring systems to perform transactions such as publishing, scheduling, rescheduling, responding to scheduling requests, negotiating changes, or canceling.",

"abstractNote": "Today's college students are expected to utilize a variety of learning technologies to succeed in higher education. Students with learning disabilities (LD) and/or Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorders (ADHD) can encounter barriers to equal access and effective learning in this new digital environment, including the development of proficiency with technology tools and self-regulation of attention while processing online information. Recognizing these trends, a research University team developed and piloted the Learning Technologies Management System (LiTMS). Service providers can implement the Principles of Universal Design for Instruction (UDI)[C] when providing academic supports with LiTMS. This new model is presented and illustrated with a hypothetical but increasingly common vignette. A concluding discussion articulates ways in which LiTMS can be used with \"all\" students in a variety of campus offices and can serve as the focus of future research. (Contains 1 figure.)",
