Some sites allow browsing of public data without explicit
sign-up. Users may volunteer information about themselves
(e.g., their birthday, place of residence, or interests), which
is added to the user’s profile.
The Internet has spawned different types of information
sharing systems, including the Web. Recently, online so-
cial networks have gained significant popularity and are now
among the most popular sites on the Web [40]. For example,
MySpace (over 190 million users1), Orkut (over 62 million),
LinkedIn (over 11 million), and LiveJournal (over 5.5 million)
are popular sites built on social networks.
In the article they discuss 5 hypothesis that deal with how often students were using Facebook, privacy concerns and the effect facebook will have on their relationships with others. It continues on with the privacy concern and discuss the methods that are used to protect the users.

We also discover that the links within this network have relatively strong semantic relatedness. In individual level, users' tagging behaviors and patterns are observed by visualizing their bookmarking history on Del.icio.us. Besides, we study the linked users by their tags and find that users within a subscription network share more common interests than random pairs of users.
