            "abstractNote": "Innovating companies increasingly rely on outsourcing to Contract Research Organisations (CROs) for their Research and Development (R&D), which are largely understudied. This paper presents the outcome of a case study in the field of food technology contract research, identifying context specific Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for a CRO. KPIs were identified with a modified version of the Wageningen Innovation Assessment Tool, with which 72 finished successful and less successful projects were analysed. We developed a benchmarking tool to evaluate starting or running innovation project quality, which allows for direct, in situ project improvements by project leaders at CROs.",

            "abstractNote": "Performance assessment has become an effective means to assess the research and development (R&D) staff scientifically and reasonably. Taken M Biological Research Institute as an example of the performance assessment system, different key performance indicators(KPI) are proposed according to the different job responsibilities in different departments. By using analytical hierarchy process and combining assistant indicators, the weight value of the indicator system is determined. B/S mode is used to build this system, which improves the work efficiency of R&D staff. ASP.NET2.0 technology is used to develop the application procedures, which makes routine maintenance more convenient.",

            "abstractNote": "Due to capital intensive characteristics, R&D departments always share production equipment with manufacturing departments in the wafer foundry industry. The goal of key performance indicators (KPIs) among these two departments is contradictory, a situation that results in longer R&D cycle times and delays in time-to-market. To solve the problem, this study has adapted the concepts of X-factor theory to construct an R&D engineering lot management model. There are two KPIs adapted in this model. The first KPI, the X-factor, is applied to trace on-time delivery performance of the new R&D technology. The second KPI, F-factor, is regarded as an index that reflects the holding cost and manufacturability of R&D lots, and simultaneously evaluates the maturity of the technology. Furthermore, a set of real data from the Fab is applied to examine the effectiveness of this model. The results reveal that this model successfully improves operational performance and shortens the R&D cycle time, which ultimately enables a factory to achieve a global optimization.",

            "abstractNote": "The presented paper proposes a design of a scientific research information system (SRIS), intended for real world use according to existing requirements and processes in the Laboratory of Intelligent Control Systems of Aircraft Engines. The novelty of the proposed SRIS lies in universal and narrow scope of the system and digitalization of existing manual processes, with the addition of algorithms and methods for research efficiency evaluation. The key idea is the possibility to design own quantitative key performance indicators (KPIs) for the efficiency evaluation. It is possible to generalize the presented approach for any research environment, either for technical, financial, time related or information efficiency evaluation. In case of a complex technical systems, the SRIS can also be considered a decision support system (DSS), when using various data mining algorithms e.g. clustering, classification, association rules, etc.",
