"abstractNote": "Traditional evaluation systems that focus heavily on publications and publication-based\nmetrics have proven insufficient to fully capture the diversity of research outputs. To\novercome this a Task Group of the Working Group Open Science of the Helmholtz Association,\nwith representatives from its 18 research centers, has developed multidimensional quality\nindicators for research data and software publications, which are based on the FAIRPrinciples and supported by a maturity model. Through the Helmholtz Quality Indicators, the\nHelmholtz Association aims to incentivise improving the reproducibility and impact of\nindividual publications, whilst at the same time providing recognition to by including them as\nkey performance indicators (KPIs) in annual institutional reporting. Analogous to peer review\nof text publications, the assessment of scientific research quality of the data and code itself\nremains to be carried out by academic experts; this process is not subject of the indicators\npresented here. This publication describes the development of the Helmholtz quality\nindicators, their quality dimensions and attributes, and current pathways toward\nautomatisation and institutional implementation.",

"abstractNote": "Several projects in the field of open access transformation share the common goal with openCost ofcreating cost transparency by focussing on interrelated topics and tasks such as funding, financialsustainability, budgeting, monitoring, appropriate workflows and tools, networking, and promoting exchange. Four projects are particularly closely linked: Since 2019, open-access.network has created an information and networking platform on the topic of open access, organised workshops onthe information budget, has published several resources on open access funding, and has launchedfocus groups to connect stakeholders and initiatives and improve their exchange. Since 2023, Transform2Open supports transformational activities at research institutions in Germany by improvingand developing cost monitoring mechanisms, promoting overarching information budgets, developing international criteria, optimizing workflows, promoting financial transparency, and developing competency profiles. Close cooperation and several in-depth consultations of openCost andTransform2Open pursue especially the streamlining of data schemata and data transfer to other systems. Since 2024, OA Datenpraxis focuses on promoting and establishing processes and proceduresfor sovereign data practice in shaping the open access transformation by improving data-drivenadministration, developing standards for collaborative data practices, minimizing dependencies oncommercial data sources, and improving respective information services. A recent addition, havingstarted in 2026, the goal of OASA (Open Access Scenario Analysis) is to analyse financial development perspectives in the open access domain and to assess their potential impacts –to be realisedthrough systematic scenario analyses, various participatory formats, the development of recommendations, and transfer activities supporting operational actions at academic institutions. The posterpresents the four projects and shows their interrelations as well as future collaboration avenues withopenCost and other relevant initiatives and actors.",

"abstractNote": "The Helmholtz Open Science Office (OS Office) is the central hub for open science within the Helmholtz Association, Germany’s largest scientific organization with 18 research centers across six research areas. It contributes to national and international open science developments and guides reforms in research assessment. In February 2025, the OS Office signed the Agreement on Reforming Research Assessment (ARRA) and joined the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA), reflecting its commitment to responsible, quality-oriented evaluation practices.\n\nTo support research assessment reforms across the 18 Helmholtz Research Centers, the OS Office and the Helmholtz Working Group Open Science established the cross-cutting Helmholtz Task Group Research Assessment in March 2025. This bottom-up initiative aims to inform researchers and management about national and international developments in the fields of research assessment and evaluation, increase the visibility of ongoing research assessment reform efforts within the Helmholtz Association, and provide a platform for identifying and developing new quality-oriented research assessment systems and tools. To support these goals with an empirical evidence base, the Task Group conducted a short cross-center survey among Helmholtz researchers and research-related staff.\n\nThe purpose of the survey was twofold: first, to understand which criteria researchers perceive as currently shaping performance evaluations and career decisions; and second, to identify which criteria they believe should be considered in the future. The survey was conducted from June 23, 2025 to September 23, 2025 as an anonymous online questionnaire targeting all 18 Helmholtz Centers and covering all six research areas. In total, 1,145 responses were collected.\n\nThe survey reveals a broad consensus on the need to reform towards more value-based evaluation criteria as well as important disciplinary and role-based differences across professional positions. The data provides an empirical basis for developing modular CV formats, revised evaluation guidelines, and center-level implementation strategies. More broadly, it contributes to the international discourse on reforming research assessment by offering large-scale, institutionally grounded evidence from a major research organization.",

As the world's largest directory of data repositories, re3data describes over 3100 infrastructures on the basis of its comprehensive metadata schema in May 2023. The service allows searching for research data repositories of any type and from all disciplines, and users can filter results based on a wide range of characteristics. The re3data descriptions are openly accessible via an API and are reused by numerous open science services, including DataCite Commons. re3data is engaged in various initiatives and projects concerning data management and is mentioned in the policies of scientific institutions, funding organizations, and publishers.</p>\n<p>The presentation will focus on the growth, development, and accomplishments of re3data over more than 10 years that have resulted in re3data becoming the most comprehensive information and metadata resource on research data repositories. Further, the presentation will address how re3data’s activities can support the establishment of best practices, support open science, and facilitate networking within different research communities. With over 850 entries the field of geosciences is one of the most strongly represented subject groups in the registry.</p>",

"abstractNote": "The Helmholtz Centers conduct data-intensive research with large-scale infrastructures, such as particle accelerators, satellites, research vessels, and aircraft. As such, the Helmholtz Association has developed strong expertise in managing research data and ensuring its accessibility and reusability. The Helmholtz Open Science Policy provides a framework for all researchers within the Helmholtz Association [1], while research data policies at individual centres guide them in making their data FAIR and open [2]. Research data and research data management (RDM) are gaining increasing importance, driven by their scientific, societal, and economic potential. Helmholtz researchers are actively involved in many national and international efforts that contribute to the establishment of high-quality standards and infrastructure, most notably through the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI). Helmholtz Centers are members in 21 out of 26 subject-specific NFDI consortia [3]. In addition to these, several Helmholtz Centres are actively involved in Base4NFDI projects, which provide basic services and infrastructure to support the NFDI in Germany. At the international level, Helmholtz Centres participate in various projects that contribute to the development of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) [4], as well as a wide range of discipline-specific initiatives. Through re3data, a global registry of research data repositories, Helmholtz plays a crucial role in promoting the discoverability and accessibility of research data. More than 100 repositories listed in re3data can be assigned to Helmholtz centers [5], underscoring their importance in enhancing RDM practices and ensuring that research data can effectively be managed and shared within the NFDI and EOSC ecosystems. Across the Helmholtz Association, numerous community-specific initiatives have emerged to address diverse RDM challenges, strengthen internal networking, and foster synergies among stakeholders. One example of such an initiative is the Research Data Commons, a joint effort by the Helmholtz Metadata Collaboration (HMC) and the Helmholtz Open Science Office. Launched in December 2024, this event series offers a forum for Helmholtz researchers and staff to share experiences, solutions, and best practices in RDM. The inaugural event focused on FAIRness, data visibility, and data quality and highlighted how Helmholtz platforms and infrastructure can serve as a central component of the NFDI framework [6]. This contribution will outline the different institutional, national and international activities around research data and RDM within the Helmholtz Association, illustrate how different stakeholders and initiatives interact, and provide examples of how RDM collaboration can be implemented in practice. "abstractNote": "Purpose Scholarly blogs serve as a medium for sharing scholarly output both inside and outside of academia. However, questions arise concerning the assurance of the long-term accessibility of scholarly blogs and their contents. The aim of this paper is to provide an overview of the scholarly blogging landscape in Germany and examine how scholarly blogs are integrated into digital research and information infrastructures. Design/methodology/approach Following a review of the literature, in this paper, we map the landscape of scholarly blogs in Germany. Therefore we (1) collected a sample of 866 German scholarly blogs, (2) developed analysis criteria and (3) collected data of each blog according to the analysis criteria. We present and discuss our data analysis in turn. Findings Our findings confirm the lack of integration of scholarly blogs into existing digital research and information infrastructure but also uncover efforts that facilitate and build research and information infrastructure around scholarly blogging. We recommend stakeholders with the potential to further facilitate the long-term accessibility and preservation of scholarly blogs. Originality/value Our study presents novel, original and large-scale findings on German scholarly blogs and their integration into digital research and information infrastructures that are relevant to information professionals and blogging scholars.",
